Factors Associated with Antiretroviral Therapy Adherence Among a Community-Based Sample of Sexual Minority Older Adults with HIV

After SVSS, a forward entry regression approach suggested unstable housing, illicit substance use, current nicotine use, and depression were all associated with poorer ART adherence among older sexual minority adults living with HIV. No a ssociations between potential correlates and biological measures of HIV disease severity wer...

Weaving culture with consequence: Immigrant status and child maltreatment outcomes in early adulthood
CONCLUSIONS: The idea that child maltreatment is less harmful among foreign-born persons, or that they are able to "bounce back" from this form of victimization due to their unique multicultural assets, is not evidenced here. Key policy implications include a need for culturally competent victim services.PMID:37734182 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2023.106451

Stress effects on spatial memory retrieval and brain c-Fos expression pattern in adults are modulated by early nicotine exposure
Neurobiol Learn Mem. 2023 Sep 18:107831. doi: 10.1016/j.nlm.2023.107831. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe cognitive effects of nicotine are linked to persistent modifications in extended neural systems that regulate cognitive and emotional processes, and these changes occur during development. Additionally, acute stress has modulatory effects on cognition that involve broad neural systems and can be influenced by prior environmental challenges. The effects of nicotine and stress may be interconnected, leading to modifications in a network of shared brain substrates. Here, we explored the interaction between nicotine and s...
