Comparison of smoking prevalence in Canada before and after nicotine vaping product access using the SimSmoke model
CONCLUSION: Smoking prevalence in Canada, especially among younger adults, declined more rapidly once NVPs became readily available. The emergence of NVPs into the Canadian marketplace has not slowed the decline in smoking.PMID:37540451 | DOI:10.17269/s41997-023-00792-3

Effects of nicotine content and preferred flavor on subjective responses to e-cigarettes: A randomized, placebo-controlled laboratory study
CONCLUSIONS: These findings support differential and non-interactive effects of e-liquid nicotine content and flavor on reinforcing effects of e-cigarettes.IMPLICATIONS: E-liquid flavor and nicotine content have independent, non-interactive effects on subjective responses to vaping under controlled laboratory conditions. Among regular e-cigarette users, vaping a preferred flavor increased taste and satisfaction, but did not interact with nicotine to alter reward or craving. Further research on the ways in which these subjective effects may motivate vaping behavior among different populations of e-cigarette users would be u...

Potential Implications for Tobacco Industry Transformation of the Acquisition of Swedish Match by Philip Morris International
Nicotine Tob Res. 2023 Aug 3:ntad138. doi: 10.1093/ntr/ntad138. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhilip Morris International's recent purchase of Swedish Match may prove to be a vital tobacco industry development. We focus on PMI's potential progress in moving from primarily selling cigarettes towards primarily selling non-combustible nicotine delivery products (NCNDPs). We also consider the potential contribution of the acquisition to industry transformation whereby other cigarette firms may potentially move towards primarily selling NCNDPs. We examine the potential impact on non-combustible nicotine delivery product use, in...

Serial Sampling of the Small Airway Epithelium to Identify Persistent Smoking-dysregulated Genes
CONCLUSIONS: Analysis of repetitive sampling of the same individuals identified persistent smoking-induced dysregulation of the small airway epithelium transcriptome and the effect of smoking cessation. These results help identify targets for the development of therapies that can be applicable to smoking-related airway diseases.PMID:37531632 | DOI:10.1164/rccm.202204-0786OC
