Enhanced degradation of ciprofloxacin in water using ternary photocatalysts TiO < sub > 2 < /sub > /SnO < sub > 2 < /sub > /g-C < sub > 3 < /sub > N < sub > 4 < /sub > under UV, visible, and solar light
In this study, we report on the synthesis of ternary photocatalysts comprising TiO2/SnO2/g-C3N4 for the degradation of ciprofloxacin (CIP) in water. SnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized via the sol-gel method, while g-C3N4 was obtained through melamine calcination. Commercial TiO2 and SnO2 nanopowders were also used. The heterojunctions were synthesized via the wet impregnation method. The photocatalysts were characterized via various techniques, including XRD, TEM, STEM, FTIR, N2 adsorption, UV-Vis DR, and hole tests. Photocatalytic degradation tests of CIP were carried out under UV, visible, and solar radiation. The P25/n...

United States' regulatory approved pharmacotherapies for nuclear reactor explosions and anthrax-associated bioterrorism
Expert Opin Drug Saf. 2023 Aug 18:1-6. doi: 10.1080/14740338.2023.2245748. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Nuclear reactor incidents and bioterrorism outbreaks are concerning public health disasters. Little is known about US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved agents that can mitigate consequences of these events. We review FDA data supporting regulatory approvals of these agents.AREAS COVERED: We reviewed pharmaceutical products approved to treat Hematopoietic Acute Radiation Syndrome (H-ARS) and to treat or prevent pulmonary infections following Bacillus anthracis (anthrax) exposure. Four drugs were a...

Visual fluorescence detection of ciprofloxacin by Zn-metal-organic framework@nanocellulose transparent films based on aggregation-induced emission
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Aug 16:126363. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126363. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe invention and production of Ciprofloxacin (CIP) have a positive impact on medical treatment, but the overuse of CIP is also harmful to the environment. In this paper, we prepared a novel film material for detection of CIP by in situ synthesis of zinc-based metal-organic framework (Zn-BDC) on TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCNF). The nanoscale Zn-BDC were uniformly distributed on the TOCNF that was beneficial to realize the transparency and functionality of Zn-BDC@TOCNF whose transparency was up to 87 %. Zn...

< em > In vitro < /em > and < em > in silico < /em > studies of antibacterial activities of secofriedelane derivatives from < em > Senna alata < /em > (L) Roxb
In this study, six compounds were obtained from a methanolic extract of air-dried leaves of Senna alata and one of them, a triterpenoid (secofriedelane) named as 7-(2-carboxyethyl)-3, 4b, 6a, 8, 10a, 12a-hexamethyl-8-vinyloctadecahydrochrysene-3-carboxylic acid (5) was isolated for the first time from this plant. Then, its chemical structure was detailed and characterised by FT-IR, 1H and 13C- NMR and ESI-MS. Besides, two chemical-modified derivatives of secofriedelane (5a, 5b) were synthesised by methylation and allylation reactions, respectively, and their in vitro antibacterial activities were also evaluated. The result...

Eugenia uniflora: a promising natural alternative against multidrug-resistant bacteria
Braz J Biol. 2023 Aug 14;83:e274084. doi: 10.1590/1519-6984.274084. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThis work aimed to evaluate the chemical composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities from crude extract and fractions from leaves of Eugenia uniflora Linn. The crude extract was obtained by turbo extraction and their fractions by partitioning. Chromatographic analysis were performed, and the antioxidant capacity was verified by two methods (DPPH• and ABTS•+). The Minimal Inhibitory/Bactericidal Concentration were conducted against twenty-two bacteria, selecting five strains susceptible to extract/fractions and resista...
