Prevalence, antibiotic susceptibility and genomic analysis of Salmonella from retail meats in Shaanxi, China
This study aimed to assess the prevalence, antibiotic susceptibility, and genomic features of Salmonella isolates recovered from 600 retail meat samples (300 pork, 150 chicken and 150 beef) from August 2018 to October 2019 in Shaanxi, China. Overall, 40 (6.67 %) of 600 samples were positive to Salmonella, with the highest prevalence in chicken (21.33 %, 32/150), followed in pork (2.67 %, 8/300), while no Salmonella was detected in beef. A total of 10 serotypes and 11 sequence types (STs) were detected in 40 Salmonella isolates, with the most common being ST198 S. Kentucky (n = 15), ST13 S. Agona (n = 6), and ST17 S. Indian...

Novel Bi < sub > 2 < /sub > WO < sub > 6 < /sub > /MWCNT nanohybrids synthesis for high-performance photocatalytic activity of ciprofloxacin degradation under simulated sunlight irradiation
Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 5:139432. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139432. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this research, novel Bi2WO6/MWCNT nanohybrids were synthesized via a cost-effective hydrothermal route. The photocatalytic performance of these specimens was tested through the photodegradation of Ciprofloxacin (CIP) under simulated sunlight. Various physicochemical techniques systematically characterized the prepared pure, Bi2WO6/MWCNT nanohybrid photocatalysts. The XRD and Raman spectra revealed the structural/phase properties of Bi2WO6/MWCNT nanohybrids. FESEM and TEM pictures revealed the attachment and distribution...

Evaluation of mechanical features and antibacterial potential of fluoroquinolone against β-ketoacyl-ACP synthases (FabB, FabF & amp; FabH) via computational approaches
In this study, a sophisticated molecular docking strategy was employed to target all three KAS enzymes. Initially, 1000 fluoroquinolone derivatives were obtained from PubChem database, along with the commonly used ciprofloxacin, and subjected to virtual screening against FabH, FabB, and FabF, respectively. Subsequently, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were conducted to confirm the stability and reliability of the generated conformations. The compounds 155813629, 142486676, and 155567217 were found to exhibit potential molecular interactions against FabH, FabB, and FabF, respectively, with docking scores of -9.9, -8.9, ...

Illustration on phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of typical multi-antibiotic resistant bacteria in aquatic environments through complete genomes and comparative genomics
In this study, a multi-resistant superbug (TR3) was screened by the selective pressure of multi-antibiotics from the activated sludge of the aeration tanks of urban wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in 5 different regions of China. Based on the 16 S rDNA sequence alignment it was found that the sequence similarity between strain TR3 and Aeromonas was as high as 99.50%. The genome-wide sequence showed that the base content of the chromosome of strain TR3 is 4,521,851 bp. It contains a plasmid with a length of 9182 bp. All antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) of strain TR3 are located on the chromosome, which means that it h...

New insight into the concentration-dependent removal of multiple antibiotics by Chlorella sorokiniana
Bioresour Technol. 2023 Jun 29:129409. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2023.129409. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMicroalgae have attracted increasing attention as an environmentally friendly treatment for antibiotics. However, the effect of antibiotic concentration on the removal ability of microalgae with the underlying mechanisms remains unclear. Thus, this work investigates the removal of tetracycline (TET), sulfathiazole (STZ), and ciprofloxacin (CIP) at different concentrations using Chlorella sorokiniana. The results indicate that microalgae have a concentration-dependent effect on antibiotic removal; however, the removal t...

Phylogenetic analyses of antimicrobial resistant Corynebacterium striatum strains isolated from a nosocomial outbreak in a tertiary hospital in China
This study aimed to investigate phylogenetic relationship and presence of genes responsible for antimicrobial resistance among C. striatum strains associated with an outbreak at the Shanxi Bethune Hospital, China, in 2021. Fecal samples were collected from 65 patients with C. striatum infection at Shanxi Bethune Hospital between February 12, 2021 and April 12, 2021. C. striatum isolates were identified by 16S rRNA and rpoB gene sequencing. E-test strips were used to examine the antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolates. Whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were employed to assess the genomic features and ...
