The rare < em > Salmonella enterica < /em > serovar Isangi: genomic characterization of the antimicrobial resistance, virulence potential and epidemiology of Brazilian strains in comparison to global isolates
Conclusion. The presence of S. Isangi strains from Brazil and different countries showing a close genomic correlation, antimicrobial resistance profiles to drugs used in human therapy and a large number of virulence determinants reinforced the need for stronger initiatives to monitor rare non-typhoidal Salmonella serovars such as S. Isangi in order to prevent its dissemination among human and non-human sources.PMID:37462464 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001736

Preparation of pyrolysis products by catalytic pyrolysis of poplar: Application of biochar in antibiotic wastewater treatment and energy storage
Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 15:139519. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139519. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoplar waste is acted as feedstock to produce renewable biofuel and green chemical by catalytic pyrolysis using ferric nitrate and zinc chloride as additive. The additive contributes to the generation of furfural in bio-oil. Additive promotes the generation of H2 and inhibits the generation of CO with bio-gas heating value of 12.16 MJ (Nm3)-1. Biochar exists ZnO and Fe3O4 with large surface area, which could be used as absorbent and photocatalyst for tetracycline and ciprofloxacin removal. The tetracycline and ciprofloxac...

Water brownness regulates the bioavailability of a fluoroquinolone antibiotic: UV-absorbance as a predictor of ciprofloxacin ecotoxicity
In this study, we investigated the impact of DOC from a variety of sources on CIP bioavailability, using a cyanobacteria growth inhibition test with Microcystis aeruginosa. We analyzed the impact from two perspectives: (1) DOC concentration, and (2) water brownness, defined in this work as the light absorbance of DOC solutions. The toxicity tests were conducted with (1) unprocessed freshwater DOC in the naturally occurring state, (2) DOC extracted from a freshwater stream (Schwarzbach stream, Küchelscheid, Belgium), and (3) the commercial DOC product Suwannee River organic matter. Across all DOC sources investigated, a st...

Vanadia as an electron-hole recombination inhibitor on fibrous silica-titania for selective hole oxidation of ciprofloxacin and Congo red photodegradation
Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 13:139502. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139502. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVanadia (V2O5)-incorporated fibrous silica-titania (V/FST) catalysts, which were successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal method followed by the impregnation of V2O5. The catalysts were then characterized using numerous techniques, including X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption analyses, ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and photoluminescence (PL...

Wound Dressing Scaffold with High Anti-biofilm Performance Based on Ciprofloxacin-Loaded Chitosan-Hydrolyzed Starch Nanocomposite: In Vitro and In Vivo Study
This study is aimed at developing novel chitosan (CS)-hydrolyzed starch nanocomposite (HS/Ch-NC) loaded with ciprofloxacin to enhance its skin retention and wound healing efficacy and anti-biofilm efficacy. Drug-loading on the (HS/Ch-NC) and encapsulation efficiency was 55.2% and 97.2%, respectively. The activity of HS-NC loaded with ciprofloxacin as anti-biofilm activity by 72% and 63% against Enterobacter aerogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively. The obtained (HS/Ch-NC) loaded with ciprofloxacin is a promising candidate for the development of improved bandage materials, as cell viability and proliferation was a...

Groundwater antibiotics contamination in an alluvial-pluvial fan, North China Plain: Occurrence, sources, and risk assessment
This study aims to investigate the concentration, distribution, ecological and human health risks as well as potential sources of antibiotics in groundwater in the Hutuo River alluvial-pluvial fan, North China Plain. A total of 84 groundwater samples and nine surface water samples were collected, and 35 categories of antibiotics were analyzed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The results indicated that 12 antibiotics were detected in surface water with a detection frequency of 100.0%. Macrolides were the primary category of antibiotics with a detection frequency of 77.8% (mean concentr...
