Inhibition of protein Kinase C- α and activation of ezrin by < em > Lactobacillus < /em > < em > acidophilus < /em > restore Na < sup > + < /sup > /H < sup > + < /sup > exchange activity and fluid absorption in < em > db/db < /em > mice
In this study, we investigated whether NHE3 expression is altered in type 2 diabetic intestine and the underlying mechanism that dysregulates NHE3. NHE3 expression in the brush border membrane (BBM) of the intestine of diabetic mice and humans was decreased. Protein kinase C (PKC) activation is associated with pathologies of diabetes and immunofluorescence analysis revealed increased BBM PKCα abundance. Inhibition of PKCα increased NHE3 BBM abundance and NHE3-mediated intestinal fluid absorption in db/db mice. Previous studies have shown that Lactobacillus acidophilus (LA) stimulates intestinal ion transporters. LA incre...

Statins for women with polycystic ovary syndrome not actively trying to conceive
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence for all main outcomes of this review was of very low certainty. Due to the limited evidence, we are uncertain if statins compared with placebo, or statins plus metformin compared with metformin alone, improve resumption of menstrual regularity. The trial evaluating statin plus OCP versus OCP alone reported neither of our primary outcomes. No other studies reported resumption of spontaneous ovulation. We are uncertain if statins improve hirsutism, acne severity, or testosterone. All trials that measured adverse events reported no significant differences between the groups.PMID:37462232 | PMC:PMC103...

Unraveling the Interplay between Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in Adolescents: Pathogenesis, Prevalence, and Management Strategies
CONCLUSIONS A meticulous approach to the prevention, detection, and treatment of NAFLD in adolescents with PCOS is paramount to mitigate further complications. The study underlines the need for ongoing research to refine our understanding and management of these interconnected metabolic disorders.PMID:37455412 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940398

Neuroprotective effects of terpenoids against streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats: An in silico, in vitro and in vivo study
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jul 14:125817. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125817. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe present study focused to determine the neuroprotective effects of terpenoids in streptozotocin & nicotinamide-induced type-2 diabetes in rats. The in silico studies were carried out for 68 terpenoids using AutoDock 4.2. The in vitro cholinestrerase, α-amylase enzyme inhibitory assays were perfomed using standard procedures. For in vivo neuroprotective studies, male wistar rats were separated into five groups and each group comprised of six animals. Treatment groups were received low dose and high dose α-Bis...
