Cordia oncocalyx and oncocalyxones: From the phytochemistry to the anticancer action and therapeutic benefits against chronic diseases
Fitoterapia. 2023 Jul 25:105624. doi: 10.1016/j.fitote.2023.105624. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCordia oncocalyx Allemão is an endemic economically underexploited plant from Brazilian semi-arid region. Herein, we carried out a well-defined bibliographic review about the pharmacological activities of oncocalyxones from C. oncocalyx and mechanisms responsible for the biomedical properties. MeSH terms were used in the scientific databases for a narrative exploration. Technological development and bioproducts were also examined. Cordia oncocalyx is a deciduous tree of sexual reproduction rich in terpenoid quinones. Among th...

Preparation and characterization of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)/chitosan composite films using acetic acid as a solvent
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jul 24:125970. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125970. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoly(3-hydroxybutyrate) and chitosan are among the most widely used polymers for biomedical applications due to their biocompatibility, renewability and low toxicity. The creation of composite materials based on biopolymers belonging to different classes makes it possible to overcome the disadvantages of each of the components and to obtain a material with specific properties. Solving this problem is associated with difficulties in the selection of conditions and solvents for obtaining the composite material. In our ...

Germylenes Exhibiting Solid-State Emissions that Extend to NIR
Chemistry. 2023 Jul 23:e202301486. doi: 10.1002/chem.202301486. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLow-valent main group compounds that fluoresce in the solid-state were previously unknown. To address this, we investigated room-temperature photoluminescence from a series of crystals of germylenes 3-8 in this article; they exhibited emissions nearly reaching the NIR. Germylene carboxylates (3-8) were synthesized by reacting dipyrromethene-stabilized germylene pyrrolide (2) with carboxylic acids such as acetic acid, trifluoroacetic acid, benzoic acid, p-cyanobenzoic acid, p-nitrobenzoic acid, and acetylsalicylic acid.PMID:3748558...

Electrochemiluminescence enhanced by isolating ACQphores in imine-linked covalent organic framework for organophosphorus pesticide assay
Talanta. 2023 Jul 19;266(Pt 1):124964. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.124964. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMost of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are non or weakly emissive due to either the molecular thermal motion-mediated energy dissipation or the aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect. Herein, we synthesize an imine-linked COF (TFPPy-TPh-COF) with high electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emission and the capability of eliminating the ACQ effect and further construct an ECL sensor for malathion detection. The imine-linked COF is obtained by the condensation reaction of (1,1':3',1″-terphenyl)-4,4″-diamine (TPh) and 1...

Assessment of photo-Fenton and solar photo electro-Fenton processes for the efficient degradation of asulam herbicide
Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 19:139585. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139585. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe degradation of asulam herbicide by photo electro-Fenton (PEF) and solar photo electro-Fenton (SPEF) processes was studied using an undivided electrochemical BDD/carbon-felt cell to generate H2O2 continuously. Using a central composite design combined with response surface methodology, current intensity = 0.30 A, [Fe2+] = 0.3 mM, and [Na2SO4] = 0.11 M at pH 3 were determined as optimal operating conditions to achieve the complete degradation of asulam by EF. The SPEF process was considered a more efficient treatment in...

A drug-incorporated-microparticle-eggshell-membrane-scaffold (DIMES) dressing: a novel biomaterial for localised wound regeneration
This study aimed to develop a biocompatible bandage made of drug-incorporated poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microparticles (MPs) and eggshell membrane (ESM) for cornea wound healing. ESM has desirable properties for wound healing and can be isolated from eggshells using acetic acid or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) protocols. Fluorescein isothiocyanate-labelled Bovine Serum Albumin (FITC-BSA) was used as a model drug, and the PLGA MPs were fabricated using a solvent extraction method. The MPs were successfully attached to the fibrous layer of the ESM using NaOH. The surface features of the ESM samples conta...

< em > In vitro < /em > fermentation of glycosaminoglycans from mackerel fish waste and its role in modulating the antioxidant status and gut microbiota of high fat diet-fed C57BL/6 mice
Food Funct. 2023 Jul 18. doi: 10.1039/d2fo03603g. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBioactive polysaccharides such as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) exhibit potential health benefits for several health complications including obesity. The gut microbiota plays a key role in regulating host metabolism, nutrition and immunity. The present work assessed the potential of extracted GAGs (e-GAGs) in maintaining the gut microbiota and ameliorating the effects of high fat diet in in vitro and in vivo models. The in vitro fermentability of e-GAGs extracted from mackerel fish waste was analyzed with Lactobacillus plantarum (LP) and Bifidobact...

Isolation and Identification of a Phosphate-Solubilizing Pantoea dispersa with a Saline-Alkali Tolerance and Analysis of Its Growth-Promoting Effects on Silage Maize Under Saline-Alkali Field Conditions
This study aimed to screen saline-alkali-tolerant PSB and analyze its growth promoting properties, and evaluate its effects on the growth, quality, soil nutrient balance, and enzyme activities of silage maize in the field. We isolated six phosphate-solubilizing strains from rhizosphere soil of silage maize planted in saline-alkali land, and FC-1 with the best P-solubilizing effect was used for further study. The morphological, physiological and biochemical analysis, and 16S rDNA and housekeeping gene atpD sequencing were performed for identification. FC-1 was identified as Pantoea dispersa and had high P solubility. The ph...
