Radial versus Femoral Access for Elderly Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome undergoing Coronary Angiography and Intervention: Insights from the RIVAL Trial
Conclusions Consistent with the overall RIVAL trial population, elderly patients undergoing cardiac catheterization have lower rates of major bleeding or access site complications and higher rates of access site crossover with radial access compared to femoral access.

Abstract The CATHeterization GENetics (CATHGEN) biorepository was assembled in four phases. First, project start-up began in 2000. Effects of withdrawing vs continuing renin-angiotensin blockers on incidence of acute kidney injury in patients with renal insufficiency undergoing cardiac catheterization: Results from the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitor/Angiotensin Receptor Blocker and Contrast Induced Nephropathy in Patients Receiving Cardiac Catheterization (CAPTAIN) trial
Conclusion In this pilot study of patients with moderate renal insufficiency undergoing cardiac catheterization, with-holding ACEI/ARB resulted in a non-significant reduction in contrast-induced AKI and a significant reduction in post-procedural rise of creatinine. This low cost intervention could be considered when referring a patient for cardiac catheterization.

Diastolic pressure–volume quotient (DPVQ) as a novel echocardiographic index for estimation of LV stiffness in HFpEF
Conclusion 3D echocardiography allows accurate non-invasive measurements of diastolic pressure–volume quotient which correlates with invasive determined LV stiffness in HFpEF.

Abstract 119: Daily Cardiac Catheterization Procedural Volume and Complications Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: There is a U-shaped association between CC volume and rates of CC related complications. Unlike prior studies which identified high annual volumes were associated with lower complication rate, our study results suggests that this relationship does not hold true for daily volume. There appears to be a daily limit at which complication rates begin to rise in proportion to volume. Higher complication rates were seen on days with very low CC volume (<5 procedures) and days with very high CC volume (>12 procedures). Abstract 176: Variation in the Content and Timing of Informed Consent in Cardiovascular Procedures: An Opportunity to Improve Decision-making Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: We observed notable variation in the content, legibility and timing of informed consent documents within and across procedures. These components are necessary, though may not be sufficient, to support a high-quality informed consent process. Our results highlight opportunities for improving informed consent. Standardization of content and increased time for patients to consider the risks, benefits, and alternatives of elective procedures may result in higher quality decision-making and facilitate patient autonomy.

Prognosis importance of low flow in aortic stenosis with preserved LVEF
Conclusions In patients with severe AS and preserved LVEF, LF, as assessed using cardiac catheterisation is frequent, and is an independent predictor of mortality. Consequently, the measurement of SVi should be systematically included in the assessment of these patients.

Temporal trends and patterns in percutaneous treatment of coronary artery disease in Poland in the years 2005-2011.
CONCLUSIONS: Use of modern attributes of interventional cardiology like DES stents, radial approach and treatment of higher risk patients has increased in Poland in 2005 to 2011. Accuracy of Echocardiographic Cardiac Index Assessment in Subjects with Preserved Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction
ConclusionsIn subjects with nondilated left ventricles with preserved LVEF, flow‐ or volume‐based measures of CI by 2D echocardiography may not accurately reflect CI (TD) and CI (F). Further larger studies are required to verify our findings and to evaluate the accuracy of contrast and 3D echocardiography in this setting.

Predictors of Long-term Clinical Endpoints in Patients With Refractory Angina Coronary Heart Disease
Conclusions Clinically stable patients with RA who are medically managed have a modest mortality, but a high incidence of hospitalization and resource use over 3 years. These findings point to the need for novel therapies aimed at symptom mitigation in this population and their potential impact on health care utilization and costs.

Differential Hemodynamic Effects of Exercise and Volume Expansion in People With and Without Heart Failure Original Articles
Conclusions— Exercise elicits greater pulmonary capillary wedge pressure elevation compared with saline in HFpEF but not controls, suggesting that hemodynamic stresses beyond passive stiffness and increased venous return explain the development of pulmonary venous hypertension in HFpEF.
