Ischaemic stroke despite antiplatelet therapy: Causes and outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: One-third of ischaemic strokes occurred despite APT and 20% of patients with a history of ischaemic stroke had no antithrombotic therapy when having stroke recurrence. Aetiology of breakthrough strokes despite APT is heterogeneous and these patients are at increased risk of recurrent stroke.PMID:37622482 | DOI:10.1177/23969873231174942

Exploring Active Compounds and Mechanisms of Angong Niuhuang Wan on Ischemic Stroke Based on Network Pharmacology and Molecular Docking
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the bioinformatics and pharmacological results reveal that counteracting oxidative stress, suppressing inflammation, inhibiting the development of AS, and even protecting neurological function are critical pathways for ANW in the treatment of ischemic stroke. These results may help to elucidate the mechanism of ANW on ischemic stroke for experimental studies and clinical applications.PMID:35388303 | PMC:PMC8977296 | DOI:10.1155/2022/2443615

Patterns of incidence rates of cardiac complications in patients with congenital heart disease
ConclusionsCardiac complications are frequent in congenital heart disease. Apart from perioperative stroke and complete heart block, incidence rates are low in childhood but the incidence increases during adult life. These data underscore the need of life-long follow up and may help for better allocation of resources maintaining follow-up.

Association of pulmonary vein isolation and major cardiovascular events in patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsIn our matched comparison, patients in the PVI group had a lower incidence rate of all-cause mortality and hospital admission for acute heart failure compared to the non-PVI group.ClinicalTrials.gov IdentifierNCT02105844, April 7th 2014.Graphical abstract

GARFIELD-AF: risk profiles, treatment patterns and 2-year outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH) compared to 32 countries in other regions worldwide
ConclusionsSimilarities and dissimilarities in AF management and clinical outcomes are seen in DACH and ORW. The increased use of NOAC was associated with a mismatch of risk-adapted anticoagulation (over-and-undertreatment) in DACH. Suboptimal control of INR requires educational activities in both regional groups. Higher rates of cardiovascular death in DACH may reflect the higher risk profile of these patients and lower rates of non-haemorrhagic stroke could be associated with increased NOAC use.Graphical abstract

Design and rationale of the Edoxaban Treatment in routiNe clinical prActice for patients with Atrial Fibrillation in Europe (ETNA-AF-Europe) study
This study details the design of the Edoxaban Treatment in routiNe clinical prActice for patients with Atrial Fibrillation in Europe (ETNA-AF-Europe) study – a postauthorization observational study, which is part of the postapproval plan for edoxaban agreed with the European Medicines Agency. Methods The ETNA-AF-Europe study (Clinicaltrials.gov: NCT02944019) is a multicenter, prospective, observational study that enrolled 13 980 patients with atrial fibrillation treated with edoxaban from 852 sites across 10 European countries (Austria, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland,...

Real-world analysis of a Biolimus A9 polymer-free drug-coated stent with very short dual antiplatelet therapy in patients at high bleeding risk.
CONCLUSION: In real-world patients at high risk of bleeding, implantation of the polymer-free metallic stent coated with Biolimus-A9 (Biofreedom®; Biosensors Europe, Morges, Switzerland) followed by 1 -month DAPT showed encouraging results without any stent thrombosis. Cardiovascular Risk Assessment and Effects on Behavior in Switzerland The Swiss Heart Foundation HerzCheck(®)/Cardio-Test(®).
CONCLUSION: The overall cardiovascular risk of individuals participating in a pharmacy based risk assessment program seems to be low. CardioTest (®) provided risk stratification with respect to future cardio-vascular events. CardioTest (®) seems to have impact on individual behavior and lifestyle modification. Other settings and locations for screening might be considered to reach higher risk individuals at an earlier stage. PMID: 25834654 [PubMed]

Impact of total ischemic time on manual thrombus aspiration benefit during primary percutaneous coronary intervention
ConclusionIn a large registry of STEMI patients, manual TA was not associated with lower risk-adjusted in-hospital all-cause mortality compared with PCI-alone regardless of TIT but was associated with significantly greater risk of MACE. In patients with prolonged TIT, manual TA was associated with higher risk-adjusted MACE rates compared with PCI-alone.

Trimethyllysine, a trimethylamine N-oxide precursor, provides near- and long-term prognostic value in patients presenting with acute coronary syndromes
Conclusion  Plasma TML levels, alone and together with TMAO, are associated with both near- and long-term CV events in patients with chest pain and ACS.
