Design and validation of a recognition instrument-the stroke aid for emergency scale-to predict large vessel occlusion stroke
CONCLUSIONS: The SAFE scale can accurately recognize LVOS at a rate comparable to those of other, similar scales.PMID:33902003 | DOI:10.18632/aging.202910

Ipsilateral internal carotid artery web and acute ischemic stroke: A cohort study, systematic review and meta-analysis
In this study, we aim to determine the prevalence of ipsilateral carotid web in a cohort of ischemic stroke patients and to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of similar cohorts. Patients& methodsWe performed a retrospective, observational, cohort study of acute ischemic stroke patients admitted to a comprehensive stroke center from June 2012 to September 2017. Carotid web was defined on computed tomography angiography (CTA) as a thin shelf of non-calcified tissue immediately distal to the carotid bifurcation. We described the prevalence of carotid artery webs in our cohort, then performed a systematic review an...

Correlation of the systemic immune-inflammation index with short- and long-term prognosis after acute ischemic stroke
This study explored the relationship between the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and stroke prognosis. Patients from the China National Stroke Registry III were investigated. SII was defined as neutrophils × platelets/lymphocytes, and the patients were divided into four groups according to quartiles based on SII values. The primary outcome was poor functional outcome, assessed by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS), defined as an mRS score of ≥3. The secondary outcome was the incidence of all-cause death and recurrent stroke. Data were analyzed using either the logistic regression or Cox regression models. As the S...

Homocysteine is associated with higher risks of ischemic stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis
by N ícollas Nunes Rabelo, João Paulo Mota Telles, Leonardo Zumerkorn Pipek, Rafaela Farias Vidigal Nascimento, Rodrigo Coimbra de Gusmão, Manoel Jacobsen Teixeira, Eberval Gadelha Figueiredo BackgroundHigh levels of homocysteine (Hct) have been associated with great risks of ischemic stroke. However, some controversy still exists. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the levels of Hct between patients with ischemic stroke and controls. MethodsWe performed a systematic literature search for articles reporting Hct levels of patients with occurrence of ischemic stroke. We employed a random-effects...

Prognostic performance of serum YKL-40 for one-year clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated serum YKL-40 at admission might be independently associated with one-year poor outcome and all-cause mortality but not stroke recurrence among Chinese AIS patients.PMID:36880855 | DOI:10.18632/aging.204553

Effect of Age and Sex on Stroke Mortality of Young and Middle-aged Adults in China, 2002-2019, and Predictions to 2030
CONCLUSION: Significant sex and age disparities in the trends of stroke mortality among young and middle-aged adults were identified in China. Targeted health policy measures are needed to address the burden of stroke in the young generation, especially for rural men, with a focus on the prevention and management of high risk factors.PMID:37105905 | DOI:10.3967/bes2023.036
