High miR-126-3p levels associated with cardiovascular events in a general population
CONCLUSIONS: An increased plasma microRNAs profile was identified in hypertensive patients with albuminuria. Increased miR-126-3p suggest it may serve as a prognostic marker for cardiovascular events in a long-term general population. Further studies will assess the potential role of miR-126-3p as a guide for the status of endothelial dysfunction.PMID:37080818 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2023.04.013

Research on Hepatocyte Regulation of PCSK9-LDLR and Its Related Drug Targets
AbstractThe prevalence of hyperlipidemia has increased significantly due to genetic, dietary, nutritional and pharmacological factors, and has become one of the most common pathological conditions in humans. Hyperlipidemia can lead to a range of diseases such as atherosclerosis, stroke, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, diabetes, and kidney failure, etc. High circulating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is one of the causes of hyperlipidemia. LDL-C in the blood binds to LDL receptor (LDLR) and regulates cholesterol homeostasis through endocytosis. In contrast, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin ...

Cardiovascular outcomes and mortality after incident ischaemic stroke in patients with a recent cancer history
CONCLUSIONS: After incident ischaemic stroke, patients with recent cancer history have a lower risk of composite MACE and recurrent stroke outcomes but a higher risk of all-cause mortality when compared with patients without a prior history of cancer.PMID:36549951 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2022.12.006

The relationship between glucose intolerance status and risk of hospitalization during two decades of follow-up: Tehran lipid and glucose study
CONCLUSION: Pre-diabetes, NDM, and KDM were associated with increased hospitalization rates during long-term follow-up. Interventions such as lifestyle modification or pharmacological therapies aiming to slow down the pre-diabetes and fair control of diabetes might potentially decrease the rate of hospitalization.Key messagesNDM and KDM status both increased rate of all-cause hospitalization.CVD and T2DM complication were the most common cause of hospitalization among patients with diabetes.Hospitalization due to recurrent CHD was significantly higher in men with diabetes than their female counterparts.PMID:36382719 | DOI:...

Association between the Suita Score and Stroke Recurrence in Patients with First-ever Ischemic Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusion The Suita score, adapted for use in ischemic stroke with the same mechanism, correlated with the short-term recurrence within one year. Our findings suggest that the Suita score may be useful for predicting the long-term prognosis of developing CHD as well as the short-term recurrence for patients with first-ever AIS and TIA.PMID:35296620 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.7905-21

A comparison over 2 decades of disability-free life expectancy at age 65 years for those with long-term conditions in England: Analysis of the 2 longitudinal Cognitive Function and Ageing Studies
by Holly Q. Bennett, Andrew Kingston, Ilianna Lourida, Louise Robinson, Lynne Corner, Carol Brayne, Fiona E. Matthews, Carol Jagger, the Cognitive Function and Ageing Studies Collaboration BackgroundPrevious research has examined the improvements in healthy years if different health conditions are eliminated, but often with cross-sectional data, or for a limited number of conditions. We used longitudinal data to estimate disability-free life expectancy (DFLE) trends for older people with a broad number of health conditions, identify the conditions that would result in the greatest improvement in DFLE, and describe the cont...

Persistence of Depressive Symptoms and Risk of Incident Cardiovascular Disease With and Without Diabetes: Results from the REGARDS Study
ConclusionsThe persistence of depressive symptoms across 5 years of follow-up in participants without diabetes identifies individuals at increased risk for incident stroke. This was particularly evident in black participants and among those not taking anti-depressants.
