Association between the liver fat score (LFS) and cardiovascular diseases in the national health and nutrition examination survey 1999-2016
CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD is usually asymptomatic, but this large study of a large general population shows that LFS is associated with CHD, CHF, angina pectoris, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. Determining the LFS is worthwhile, as it identifies people with NAFLD, who may also be at increased cardiovascular risk.Key MessagesLiver fat score (LFS), a non-invasive marker of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is associated with coronary heart disease (CHD), congestive heart failure (CHF) and angina.LFS is also associated with increased cardiovascular and all-cause mortality.Determining the LFS is worthwhile as it ide...

Sex-disparities in risk factors and atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients
Conclusion: Among diabetic people, compared to males, females had a higher comorbid burden but received less optimal treatment, which might partly explain their higher prevalence of composite ASCVD and CHD.PMID:33874831 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2021.1917930

Fish, Cardiovascular Disease, and Mortality
Fish and shellfish (hereafter referred to as fish) are major sources of the dietary long-chain ω-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3) and also contain other nutrients, such as vitamin D, riboflavin, iodine, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and iron. The summed results of observational studies of fish intake, randomized clinical tria ls of fish oil supplements, and associated mechanistic and experimental studies suggest that regular fish consumption may decrease the incidence of myocardial infarction (MI) and coronary heart disease (CHD), with more uncertain effec...

Efficacy and safety of Shenfu injection combined with sodium nitroprusside in the treatment of chronic heart failure in patients with coronary heart disease: A protocol of randomized controlled trial
This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of Shenfu injection combined with sodium nitroprusside in the treatment of chronic heart failure in patients with coronary heart disease. The results of this experiment will provide a clinical basis for Shenfu injection combined with sodium nitroprusside in the treatment of chronic heart failure in coronary heart disease. Nomogram to predict risk for early ischemic stroke by non-invasive method
Stroke is the acute onset of neurological deficits and is associated with high morbidity, mortality, and disease burden. In the present study, we aimed to develop a scientific, nomogram for non-invasive predicting risk for early ischemic stroke, in order to improve stroke prevention efforts among high-risk groups. Data were obtained from a total of 2151 patients with early ischemic stroke from October 2017 to September 2018 and from 1527 healthy controls. Risk factors were examined using logistic regression analyses. Nomogram and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were drawn, cutoff values were established. Sig...

Correlation among high salt intake, blood pressure variability, and target organ damage in patients with essential hypertension: Study protocol clinical trial (SPIRIT compliant)
This study is a cross-sectional study. It will recruit 600 patients with essential hypertension in the outpatient and inpatient department of cardiovascular medicine of Chengdu Fifth People's Hospital. Researchers will obtain blood and urine samples with the patient's informed consent. In addition, we will measure patient's blood pressure and target organ-related information. Trial registry: The study protocol was approved by the Chengdu Fifth People's Hospital. Written informed consent will be obtained from all the participants. The trial was registered in the Chinese Clinical trial registry, ChiCTR2000029243. This tri...

The prevalence and prognostic significance of interatrial block in the general population.
Discussion IAB is a rather frequent finding in the general population. IAB is a risk factor for AF and is associated with an increased risk of stroke or TIA independently of associated AF. Key messagesBoth partial and advanced interatrial block are associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation in the general population.Advanced interatrial block is an independent risk factor for stroke and transient ischemic attack. The clinical significance of interatrial block is dependent on the subtype classification. Targeting Inflammation and Immune System in Acute Myocardial Infarction.
Authors: Alwi I Abstract Over more than two decades, the concept of atherosclerosis has developed and lead to inflammatory hypothesis. Inflammation plays an important role on pathogenesis of atherothrombosis and coronary heart disease (CHD), including acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Although the management of ACS has been demonstrated to be beneficial for secondary prevention of coronary heart disease (such as using statin and aspirin) and also seemed to have positive effect on inflammation, the identification of effective management, specifically targeting inflammation, has been not been comprehensively understood....

Frailty syndrome in daily practice of interventional cardiology ward—rationale and design of the FRAPICA trial: A STROBE-compliant prospective observational study
The objectives are to report Fried frailty scale and IADL scale dispersion before hospital discharge and to assess predictive impact of both scores. The endpoints are: success of interventional treatment, its complications (procedure related myocardial infarction, dye-induced renal function deterioration, loss of blood), 3-year mortality, either all-cause and cardiovascular, re-infarction, re-intervention, stroke, new-onset heart failure, any hospital readmission, and a combination of all above mentioned. Secondary analyses will focus on distinct clinical patient presentations, sub-classifications of frailty for modeling o...
