467: Predicting left ventricular outflow tract area to improve thoracic impedance cardiography estimation of cardiac output among antepartum patients
The objective of this study was to derive a model predicting LVOT area which, when combined with hands-free, continuous EC measurements, will increase the accuracy of stroke volume and cardiac output measurement in obstetric patients.

Measurement of maternal cerebral tissue hemoglobin on near‐infrared time‐resolved spectroscopy in the peripartum period
ConclusionsTRS‐20 can detect specific changes in maternal cerebral tissue hemoglobin level in response to physiological and pathophysiological changes in delivery. Thus, it represents a promising new conventional tool for maternal cerebral monitoring in the peripartum period.

Risk of thrombosis in women with malignancies undergoing ovarian stimulation for fertility preservation
CONCLUSIONS The available evidence on the risks of thrombosis for women undergoing ovarian stimulation for fertility preservation due to a malignancy is reassuring. However the avoidance of the early form of OHSS in women preserving oocytes/embryos due to malignancy is crucial. For these cycles, we advocate the use of a regimen of ovarian stimulation with gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists using GnRH agonists to trigger ovulation, an approach that has been shown to markedly reduce the risk of OHSS. Antithrombotic prophylaxis should be administered only to selected subgroups of women such as those with other...

FDA Approval of Paroxetine for Menopausal Hot Flushes
ABSTRACT: In June 2013, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved paroxetine (Brisdelle, Noven) for the treatment of moderate to severe hot flushes (vasomotor symptoms) associated with menopause. Brisdelle is the only nonhormonal treatment approved by the FDA for this indication. Prior to approval of Brisdelle, FDA-approved treatments for hot flashes were hormones containing either estrogen alone or estrogen plus a progestin. Hormonal therapy is highly effective for treating vasomotor symptoms. However, the use of hormonal therapy dropped substantially after initial findings of the Women’s Health Initiative randomi...

Primary Ovarian Insufficiency
Abstract Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a syndrome of amenorrhoea, sex steroid deficiency, and elevated gonadotropins in a woman aged more than two standard deviations below the mean age for menopause estimated for her reference population. In practical terms, it occurs spontaneously in 1 % of women before the age of 40 years. Apart from idiopathic POI, many women will have impaired ovarian function by age 40 years as a consequence of surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy. Of identifiable causes of POI, the most common are concurrent autoimmune diseases such as thyroid and adrenal disease, and chromoso...

Facing the noncommunicable disease (NCD) global epidemic – The battle of prevention starts in utero – The FIGO challenge
Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are responsible for 36 million deaths every year. Of this death toll, nearly 80% (29 million) occur in low- and median-income countries. More than 9 million deaths attributed to NCDs occur in people under 60 years of age. National economies are suffering considerable losses due to premature death or disability to work resulting from heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. The knowledge that in utero and in early childhood certain processes can affect the risk of developing NCDs provides an opportunity to enforce interventions during this critical time, when they may have the greatest effect.

The BRAzil MAGnesium (BRAMAG) trial: a randomized clinical trial of oral magnesium supplementation in pregnancy for the prevention of preterm birth and perinatal and maternal morbidity
Background: Preterm birth is the leading cause of infant mortality globally, including Brazil. We will evaluate whether oral magnesium citrate reduces the risk of placental dysfunction and its negative consequences for both the fetus and mother, which, in turn, should reduce the need for indicated preterm delivery. Methods: We will complete a multicenter, randomized double-blind clinical trial comparing oral magnesium citrate 150 mg twice daily (n = 2000 women) to matched placebo (n = 1000 women), starting at 121/7 to 206/7 weeks gestation and continued until delivery. We will include women at higher risk for placental dys...
