Blood group and ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral vascular disease: A meta-analysis of over 145,000 cases and 2,000,000 controls
The ABO blood groups have been associated with the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases through an influence on two important blood clotting proteins, von Willebrand factor (vWF) and factor FVIII levels (FVIII).1,2 These proteins circulate in the plasma as a complex and are vital in normal haemostasis.1 The highest levels of FVIII and VWF are seen in non-O blood groups. Studies suggest a relationship between non-O blood groups and an increased risk of venous thromboembolism and other thrombotic episodes.

Association between post-stroke smoking and stroke recurrence in first-ever ischemic stroke survivors: based on a 10-year prospective cohort
ConclusionsSmoking could elevate the risk of IS recurrence, and IS survivor should be advised to quit or smoke less. Add-on effect of clopidogrel may not exist in smoking strokers taking clopidogrel.

Myocardial Infarction Bends the Curve of Age-Related Cognitive Decline
In this issue of JAMA Neurology, Johansen et al reported that there was an acceleration of age-related cognitive decline following acute myocardial infarction (MI). In an analysis of more than 30  000 persons pooled from 6 major US epidemiological cohort studies, the 1033 individuals who had an MI during study follow-up had a steeper annual decline in cognition after the MI compared with before the MI. As expected, all persons with or without MI had a small age-related annual decline in co gnition. This age dependence is a feature of most neuropsychological tests. However, after MI, the annual rate of decline accelerated...

Comparison of Prasugrel and Clopidogrel in Thrombotic Stroke Patients with Risk Factors for Ischemic Stroke Recurrence: An Integrated Analysis of PRASTRO-I, PRASTRO-II, and PRASTRO-III
Conclusions: This integrated analysis supports the findings of PRASTRO-III. Prasugrel is a promising treatment that results in a numerical reduction in the composite incidence of ischemic stroke, MI, and death from other vascular causes in patients with ischemic stroke who are at a high risk of stroke recurrence. No major safety issues were observed for prasugrel.Cerebrovasc Dis

Stroke, Death, and MI After Transcarotid Artery Revascularization vs Carotid Endarterectomy
This cohort study compares risk of 30-day stroke, death, or myocardial infarction or 1-year ipsilateral stroke among patients with standard surgical risk undergoing transcarotid artery revascularization vs carotid endarterectomy.

Proteinuria and Risk for Heart Failure in 55,191 Patients Having History of Cancer
We examined the association of proteinuria with the risk for heart failure (HF) and other cardiovascular disease (CVD) events in patients with prior history of breast, colorectal, or stomach cancer using a nationwide population-based database. Methods: We conducted this retrospective observation study using the JMDC Claims Database and analyzed 55,191 patients with prior history of breast, colorectal, or stomach cancer. The median age was 54 (48 –60) years, and 20,665 participants (37.4%) were men. Using urine dipstick data at baseline, 3,945 and 1,521 participants were categorized as having trace and positive proteinuria...

White matter hyperintensities are an independent predictor of cognitive decline 3 years following first-ever stroke —results from the PROSCIS-B study
ConclusionHigher WMH burden was associated with a significant decline in cognition 3 years post-stroke in this cohort of first-ever stroke patients.

Lipoprotein(a) and residual vascular risk in statin-treated patients with first acute ischemic stroke: A prospective cohort study
ConclusionsLp(a) levels increased in half of statin-treated patients with first AIS. Creatinine and AST were positively associated with the percent change of Lp(a) levels. Lp(a) is a determinant of residual vascular risk and the change of Lp(a) is positively associated with the risk of recurrent vascular events in these patients.

Modified Eversion Carotid Endarterectomy: A Novel Surgical Technique for Carotid Artery Stenosis Treatment
Conclusions: The mECEA is a promising surgical option for CAS with acceptable clinical outcomes. In order to prove its safety and efficacy, future practices need to be conducted by more medical workers in more large-scale trials.

Verifynow P2Y12 PRU-Guided Modification of Clopidogrel for Prevention of Recurrent Ischemic Stroke: A Real-World Prospective Cohort Study
ConclusionVerifynow P2Y12 PRU-guided modification of clopidogrel for ischemic stroke significantly improved or prevented recurrence at the 1-year follow-up. Our findings suggest that clopidogrel therapy based on the PRU cutoff value of 190 should be considered to improve outcomes.Trial RegistrationClinicalTrials.gov NCT02618265 (December 1, 2015).

Large vessel occlusions requiring repeated mechanical thrombectomy caused by silent myocardial infarction in a young adult
Silent myocardial ischemia is defined as objective evidence of myocardial ischemia despite the absence of symptoms.1 –3 Previous studies have reported that silent myocardial infarction (MI) is associated with ischemic stroke.4–6 However, silent MI is a rare cause of ischemic stroke in young adults. Additionally, to our knowledge, there are no reports of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) associated with silent MI of sufficient severity to require repeated mechanical thrombectomy (MT). Herein, we present a young adult AIS patient treated with repeated MT for recurrent large vessel occlusions (LVO) caused by a left ventricular ...

Heart Failure Status among Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients: A Hospital-Based Study
CONCLUSION: There is a high prevalence of HF among acute ischemic stroke patients. Older patients with a history of hypertension and previous MI are at higher risk. Since patients with HF have a higher mortality and morbidity rate after experiencing an ischemic stroke, close cooperation between the neurology and cardiology specialists for providing advanced care for survivors is required.PMID:36059928 | PMC:PMC9433237 | DOI:10.1155/2022/7348505
