Procalcitonin related to stroke-associated pneumonia and clinical outcomes of acute ischemic stroke after IV rt-PA treatment.
This study demonstrated that PCT was a reliable diagnostic and prognostic biomarker of SAP and poor clinical outcomes in Chinese AIS patients after IV rt-PA treatment. PMID: 33389464 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Delayed Treatment with Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells Accelerates Functional Recovery and Modifies Responses of Peri-Infarct Astrocytes Following Photothrombotic Stroke in Rats
Cell Transplant. 2021 Jan-Dec;30:963689720984437. doi: 10.1177/0963689720984437.ABSTRACTDental pulp contains multipotent mesenchymal stem cells that improve outcomes when administered early after temporary middle cerebral artery occlusion in rats. To further assess the therapeutic potential of these cells, we tested whether functional recovery following stroke induced by photothrombosis could be modified by a delayed treatment that was initiated after the infarct attained maximal volume. Photothrombosis induces permanent focal ischemia resulting in tissue changes that better reflect key aspects of the many human strokes in...

Association of MicroRNA Biogenesis Genes Polymorphisms with Risk of Large Artery Atherosclerosis Stroke
This study aimed to examine whether miRNA biogenesis genes polymorphisms are associated with risk of large artery atherosclerosis (LAA) stroke. Three polymorphisms (DROSHA rs10719 T>C, RAN rs3803012 A>G, and PIWIL1 rs10773771 C>T) were screened by certain criteria. A total of 1,785 (710 cases and 1,075 controls) study subjects were included in this study. We found that rs10773771 CC genotype was associated with a decreased risk of LAA stroke (CC vs. TT/CT: OR 0.63, 95% CI 0.46-0.86, P = 3 × 10-3). In silico analysis suggested that rs10773771 can change the mRNA secondary structure of PIWIL1 and affect the binding...

Emerging Role of LncRNAs in Ischemic Stroke-Novel Insights into the Regulation of Inflammation
J Inflamm Res. 2021 Sep 7;14:4467-4483. doi: 10.2147/JIR.S327291. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTAs a crucial kind of pervasive gene, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are abundant and key players in brain function as well as numerous neurological disorders, especially ischemic stroke. The mechanisms underlying ischemic stroke include angiogenesis, autophagy, apoptosis, cell death, and neuroinflammation. Inflammation plays a vital role in the pathological process of ischemic stroke, and systemic inflammation affects the patient's prognosis. Although a great deal of research has illustrated that various lncRNAs are closely relevant t...

Complete Restoration of Motor Function in Acute Cerebral Stroke Treated with Allogeneic Human Umbilical Cord Blood Monocytes: Preliminary Results of a phase I Clinical Trial
Cell Transplant. 2021 Jan-Dec;30:9636897211067447. doi: 10.1177/09636897211067447.ABSTRACTStem cell therapy has been explored for the treatment of cerebral stroke. Several types of stem cells have been investigated to ensure the safety and efficacy in clinical trials.Cryopreserved umbilical cord blood (UCB) mononuclear cells (MNCs) obtained from healthy donors have a more stabilized quality, thereby ensuring a successful therapy. A phase I study was conducted on patients aged 45-80 years who sustained acute ischemic stroke. An UCB unit was obtained from a public cord blood bank based on ABO/Rh blood type, HLA matching scor...

COVID-19-Induced Stroke and the Potential of Using Mesenchymal Stem Cells-Derived Extracellular Vesicles in the Regulation of Neuroinflammation
In this study, we have first described the advantages and disadvantages of neuroinflammation in the pathological evolution after IS and summarized the characteristics of neuroinflammation in COVID-19-related stroke. Then, we have discussed the potential benefit of MSC-EVs in the regulation of inflammatory responses after COVID-19-induced ischemic events.PMID:35025001 | PMC:PMC8755896 | DOI:10.1007/s10571-021-01169-1
