ConclusionsUC and CD do not appear to be associated with a higher risk of mortality or increased healthcare usage in AIS. AIS risk assessment in patients with IBD is important but should be done in a similar fashion to the general population.

Intraperitoneal microdialysis detects intestinal leakage earlier than hemodynamic surveillance and systemic inflammation in a pig model.
CONCLUSION: Intraperitoneal fecal contamination leads to a rapid and pronounced intraperitoneal increase in lactate, decrease in glucose while pyruvate and glycerol levels remain unchanged. This distinct metabolic pattern of peritoneal inflammation can be easily detected by microdialysis. Observation of this pattern may minimize time to safe diagnosis of intestinal perforations after intraperitoneal fecal contamination.

Intestinal Ischemic Manifestations of COVID-19
We read with interest the article by Norsa et al1 on intestinal ischemia in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). They further highlight the coagulopathy known to cause vascular obstructions in patients with severe COVID-19, in whom microthrombi are typically found in the lung circulation; however, also myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke were reported, particularly in the late phase of the disease. The patients reported by Norsa et al had either small or large bowel ischemia, splenic infarct, or pulmonary thromboembolism, which were fatal in 4 of the 7 cases.

Parental, Perinatal, and Childhood Risk Factors for Development of Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Systematic Review.
Conclusions: More effort is needed to identify what fetal and maternal factors are associated with low birth weight and IBS. A well-executed prospective birth cohort with a collection of bio-samples and functional data will provide a better understanding of how adversity and the interplay between genetics, epigenetics, and numerous risk factors affect the development of IBS.

We read with great interest the study by Tellez et al.1 highlighting mechanisms of hemodynamic alterations and associated renal dysfunction with the use of a 4-week non-selective beta-blocker (NSBB) therapy in refractory ascites (RA) and diuretic responsive ascites (DRA).1 They proposed ejection intra-ventricular pressure difference (EIVPD) as a n ovel load-independent measure that predicts LV systolic function decline better than standard load-dependent measures (ejection fraction and stroke volume).
