Intra-and peritumoral hemorrhage in the meningioma of a nonagenarian due to administration of direct oral anticoagulants after mechanical thrombectomy
CONCLUSION: Peritumoral edema representing a pial blood supply might be a significant factor associated with intracranial hemorrhage due to DOAC administration in patients with meningioma. The evaluation of hemorrhagic risk due to DOACs is important not only for meningioma but also for other brain tumor cases.PMID:37292413 | PMC:PMC10246366 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_18_2023

Machine learning-based identification of symptomatic carotid atherosclerotic plaques with dual-energy computed tomography angiography
CONCLUSION: FF and NID can serve as useful imaging markers of symptomatic carotid plaques. This tree-based machine learning model incorporating both DECT and clinical features could potentially comprise a non-invasive method for identification of symptomatic carotid plaques to guide clinical treatment strategies.PMID:37290153 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2023.107209

Improving clinical suspicion of acute mesenteric ischemia among patients with acute abdomen: a cross-sectional study from an intestinal stroke center
Early diagnosis of acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is essential for a favorable outcome. Selection of patients requiring a dedicated multiphasic computed tomography (CT) scan remains a clinical challenge.

Intracranial Spotty Calcium Predicts Recurrent Stroke in Patients with Symptomatic Intracranial Atherosclerotic Stenosis
ConclusionIn patients with symptomatic ICAS, intracranial spotty calcium is an independent predictor of recurrent ischemic stroke, which will further facilitate risk stratification and suggest that more aggressive treatment should be considered for these patients.

Machine learning-based identification of symptomatic carotid atherosclerotic plaques with dual-energy computed tomography angiography
This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning model incorporating both dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) angiography quantitative parameters and clinically relevant risk factors for the identification of symptomatic carotid plaques to prevent acute cerebrovascular events.

Prediction of Occurrence of Cerebral Infarction After Successful Mechanical Thrombectomy for Ischemic Stroke in the Anterior Circulation by Arterial Spin Labeling
ConclusionThe AI of ASL-CBF before MT or a  combination of a history of atrial fibrillation, the AI of ASL-CBF before MT, and the time from onset to reperfusion can be used to predict the occurrence of infarction in patients arriving within 8 h after stroke onset in which reperfusion with MT was successful.

A brain CT-based approach for predicting and analyzing stroke-associated pneumonia from intracerebral hemorrhage
DiscussionOur findings suggest that our method is effective in classifying the development of pneumonia based on brain CT scans. Furthermore, we identified distinct characteristics, such as volume and distribution, of ICH in four different types of SAP.

Outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy at a single-centre tertiary level public healthcare hospital in South Africa
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated similar rates of recanalisation and functional independence to that seen in trials in high-income countries using basic imaging despite a higher mortality and longer median time to reperfusion. This data supports the effectiveness of MT in a tertiary level public hospital in South Africa despite the challenges of providing emergent stroke care in a resource-constrained setting.PMID:37259571 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231178163

Subfatin, asprosin, alamandine and maresin-1 in cerebral ischemia, intracranial and subarachnoid hemorrhages
CONCLUSIONS: Decreased MaR-1, SUB, ALA and increased ASP compared to the control values may play a role in the physiopathology of these diseases. MaR-1, SUB, ALA, and ASP differences between SAH, CI and ICH patients may also guide clinicians along with SBP, DBP and glucose values.PMID:37259728 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202305_32453
