ABO Blood Type and Stroke Risk: The REasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) Study.
CONCLUSION: Blood type AB is associated with an increased risk of stroke that is not attenuated by conventional stroke risk factors and factor VIII levels were associated with 60% of the association. Multiple risk factors and ischaemic stroke in the elderly Asian population with and without atrial fibrillation. An analysis of 425,600 Chinese individuals without prior stroke.
In conclusion, an increasing cluster of multiple cardiovascular risk factors (besides AF) contributes to a greater risk for ischaemic stroke, especially in the elderly population. If elderly and with multiple risk factors, non-AF patients may have a risk of incident ischaemic stroke that is comparable or even higher than patients with AF, suggesting that the incremental stroke risk attributable to AF is marginal in such 'high risk' patients. A Nationwide Analysis of Outcomes of Stroke in Hospitalized Patients with Essential Thrombocythemia: 2006 to 2014
Conclusions:Patients with ET who are hospitalized with stroke have significantly worse outcomes. This study demonstrated that a statistically significant difference exists among different age groups of patients with ET and stoke who died during hospitalization when stratification is made using age groups and Charlson Score. This study may serve as an initial point to include new risk factors for further risk stratification. Here we assessed the contribution of clopidogrel versus aspirin to the development of pneumonia during an acute ischemic stroke admission. Prevalence and covariates of uncontrolled hypertension in ischemic stroke survivors: the Norwegian stroke in the young study.
CONCLUSION: Uncontrolled hypertension was highly prevalent in ischemic stroke survivors <60 years and associated with co-presence of obesity and functional and structural arterial damage. Relation of coagulation factor XI with incident coronary heart disease and stroke: the Cardiovascular Health Study
We examined the association of FXI with incident coronary heart disease (CHD), ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke. Data were from 3394 adults (mean age: 74.5 years) enrolled in the Cardiovascular Health Study who had FXI antigen from plasma samples drawn in 1992–1993 and were followed for cardiovascular events until 30 June 2013.
