Clinician's attitude to enteral nutrition with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy: a survey in China
CONCLUSIONS: Doctors' insufficient knowledge of PEG feeding, resistance from patients and families, poor cooperation among departments, all these factors leading physicians to prefer more conservative treatment to avoid disputes rather than better ones.PMID:34565469 | PMC:PMC8474729 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-021-00264-9

Predictors of nasogastric tube removal in patients with stroke and dysphagia
In this study, we developed a model to predict the outcome of dysphagia in patients with stroke. A retrospective study was performed from May 2015 to December 2018. We reviewed the medical charts of all patients with a diagnosis of stroke receiving nasogastric tube feeding. Patients were divided into weaned and nonweaned groups to compare baseline characteristics and functional status. The weaned and nonweaned groups comprised 55 and 65 patients, respectively. In the final logistic regression analysis model, the Barthel index at admission, lip closing status, ability to answer simple questions and functional independence b...

Network Mapping of Time to Antithrombotic Therapy Among Patients With Ischemic Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
Conclusion: The proportion of patients receiving antithrombotics within 48 h was higher than previously reported in Australia but remained lower than the standard achieved in North American hospitals. Our process map and network analysis show avenues to shorten the time to antithrombotic.

Oral Health, Oral Microbiota, and Incidence of Stroke-Associated Pneumonia —A Prospective Observational Study
This study involved three investigation timepoints. The baseline investigation (within 24 h of admission) involved collection of demographic, neurological, and immunological data; dental examinations; and microbiological sampling (saliva and subgingival plaque). Further investigation timepoints at 48 or 120 h after baseline included collection of immunological data and microbiological sampling. Microbiological samples were analyzed by culture technique and by 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. From the 99 patients included in this study, 57 were diagnosed with stroke and 42 were so-called stroke mimics. From 57 stroke patients,...

Predictors and associating factors of nasogastric tube removal: Clinical and brain imaging data analysis in post-stroke dysphagia.
CONCLUSION: In Taiwan, the NG tube removal rate reached a plateau at around 12-16 weeks after stroke onset. Variables related to long-term NG tube use were divided into baseline characteristics of patient and stroke event severity. PMID: 32199716 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A Comparative Study of Two Tube Feeding Methods in Patients with Dysphagia After Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Background: Dysphagia is a common symptom seen in stroke patients, it not only affects patients' nutrition supply, but also causes aspiration pneumonia. To solve the problem of nutritional support for patients with dysphagia after stroke, nasogastric tubes are routinely indwelling to provide nutrition in China. However, this feeding method sometimes causes food reflux, aspiration, pneumonia, and often affects the patients ’ comfort and self-image acceptance. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine whether a new feeding method called intermittent oroesophageal (IOE) tube feeding compared with continuous nasogastric tu...
