Combined Arterial Hypertension and Ischemic Stroke Exaggerate Anesthesia-Related Hypotension and Cerebral Oxygenation Deficits: A Preclinical Study
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings are the first demonstration that ischemic stroke per se increases the severity of IOH, particularly when combined with a prior history of hypertension; this combination appears to compromise penumbral perfusion.PMID:36730724 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006263

Polish recommendations for diagnosis and therapy of paediatric stroke
Neurol Neurochir Pol. 2023 May 5. doi: 10.5603/PJNNS.a2023.0034. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStroke remains one of the greatest health challenges worldwide, due to a high mortality rate and, despite great progress in its treatment, the significant disability that it causes. Studies conducted around the world show that the diagnosis of stroke in children is often significantly delayed. Paediatric ischaemic arterial stroke (PAIS) is not only a problem that varies greatly in frequency compared to the adult population, it is also completely different in terms of its risk factors, clinical course and outcome. The main reason ...

P-013 The need for speed: reducing endovascular treatment times in ischemic stroke
ConclusionsImproving awareness of process expectations by meeting with stakeholders resulted in a substantial and sustainable decreases in median door to groin puncture and door to first pass times. Implementation of hospital-based PI multidisciplinary team initiatives helped improve our sites work flow and continued to improve our door to 1st pass times.Disclosures H. Shownkeen: None. A. Severe stroke: Which medicine for which results?
Abstract In face of any severe stroke, the questions for health professionals in charge of the patient are: will the handicap be acceptable for the patient? But can we predict an acceptable handicap for the patient? For his family? When we know that the cognitive disorders, consequences of severe stroke often modify, in a major way, the behaviour of these patients? Given these difficulties for estimate vital and functional prognosis and even more the quality of life of patients with severe stroke, collective reflexions between physicians and nurses are essential, reflexions taking into account preferences and valu...

Assessment of acute stroke cerebral CT examinations by anaesthesiologists
ConclusionsThis study suggests that anaesthesiologists who are experienced in pre‐hospital care may be quickly trained to assess cerebral CT examinations in acute stroke patients with regard to radiological contraindications for thrombolytic therapy.

Time is Brain: Standardized Neuro-Interventional Thrombectomy Protocols lead to Faster Recanalization Times (I6.005)
Conclusions:Our initiatives allowed us to refine our process of care, resulting in a significant reduction of time between patient arrival and CT imaging, CT imaging and femoral artery access, and groin puncture to recanalization.Disclosure: Dr. Frei has received personal compensation for activities with Microvention, Covidien, Stryker, Siemens, and Penumbra as a consultant. Outcomes of General Anesthesia and Conscious Sedation in Endovascular Treatment for Stroke.
Conclusion General anesthesia for endovascular intervention in acute ischemic stroke was associated with increased mortality and poorer neurological incomes compared with conscious sedation. In our study, age, gender, history of hypertension, history of diabetes, and baseline National Institute of Health Stroke Scale were not significantly different between the groups. Although the need for a randomized, prospective study on this topic is clear, our study represents further corroboration of the safety and efficacy of conscious sedation in these procedures. Quercetin protects against heat stroke-induced myocardial injury in male rats: Antioxidative and antiinflammatory mechanisms
Publication date: Available online 16 January 2017 Source:Chemico-Biological Interactions Author(s): Xiaojing Lin, Cheng-Hsien Lin, Tingbao Zhao, Dan Zuo, Zhujun Ye, Lin Liu, Mao-Tsun Lin Heat stroke is characterilized by hyperthermia, systemic inflammation, and multiple organ failure including arterial hypotension. This definition can be fulfilled by a rat model of heat stroke used in the present study. Anesthetized animals were exposed to heat exposure (43 °C for 70 min) and then returned to room temperature (26 °C) for recovery. One hour before heat exposure, an intraperitoneal dose of quercetin (30 mg/kg) or veh...

Risks of Cardiovascular Adverse Events and Death in Patients with Previous Stroke Undergoing Emergency Noncardiac, Nonintracranial Surgery The Importance of Operative Timing
Background The outcomes of emergent noncardiac, nonintracranial surgery in patients with previous stroke remain unknown. Methods All emergency surgeries performed in Denmark (2005 to 2011) were analyzed according to time elapsed between previous ischemic stroke and surgery. The risks of 30-day mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events were estimated as odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs using adjusted logistic regression models ina priori defined groups (reference was no previous stroke). In patients undergoing surgery immediately (within 1 to 3 days) or early after stroke (within 4 to 14 days), propensity-score matching...

Calycosin-7-O- β-D-glucoside reduces myocardial injury in heat stroke rats.
CONCLUSION: We thus conclude that myocardial injury can be a pressing need for the design of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for heat stroke. In particular, our data indicate that CG protects against heat stroke in rats by mitigating myocardial injury. PMID: 30245143 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Acute ischaemic stroke: challenges for the intensivist
ConclusionsWhile consensus guidelines are available to guide clinical decision making after acute ischaemic stroke, there is limited high-quality evidence for many of the recommended interventions. However, a bundle of medical, endovascular, and surgical strategies, when applied in a timely and consistent manner, can improve long-term stroke outcomes.
