Efficacy and safety of thrombectomy for acute ischaemic stroke in patients with pre-stroke mRS scores of 2-3: Real-world evaluation from an open-label, prospective, multicentre, observational study
CONCLUSION: Intravenous t-PA and especially thrombectomy were safe and effective for the population with pre-stroke disabilities, particularly for patients with low NIHSS scores.PMID:37461387 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231185637

Predictors of Survival in Patients With Ischemic Stroke and Active Cancer: A Prospective, Multicenter, Observational Study
Conclusions The prognosis of patients with acute ischemic stroke and active cancer varied considerably depending on stroke mechanism, distant metastasis, and coagulation abnormalities. The present study confirmed that coagulation abnormalities were crucial in determining the prognosis of such patients.PMID:37489755 | DOI:10.1161/JAHA.123.029618

Two-Year Outcomes of Anticoagulation for Acute Ischemic Stroke With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation - SAMURAI-NVAF Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke/TIA patients receiving DOACs for secondary prevention were younger and had lower stroke severity and risk indices than those receiving warfarin. Estimated cumulative incidences of stroke and systemic embolism within 2 years were similar between warfarin and DOACs users, but those of death and intracranial hemorrhage were significantly lower among DOAC users. Impact of atrial high-rate episodes on the risk of future stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Embolic stroke events are common in Japanese patients with CIEDs. AF events lasting ≥30s and an enlarged left atrium are the risk factors of embolic stroke in this population. PMID: 30728105 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Two Novel SNPs in the PLCL2 Gene Associated with Large Artery Atherosclerotic Stroke Identified by Fine-Mapping
AbstractA genome-wide association study (GWAS) reported that the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs4618210 in thePLCL2 gene is related to myocardial infarction (MI) in the Japanese population, but no study has examined the correlation ofPLCL2 with ischemic stroke (IS). The present study was designed to investigate whether the genetic variation inPLCL2 is associated with large artery atherosclerotic (LAA) stroke in a Han Chinese population. Tagging SNPs (tSNPs) of thePLCL2 gene were determined by a fine-mapping strategy and were genotyped by improved multiplex ligation detection reaction (iMLDR) technology in 669 LAA s...

Weather Fluctuations May Have an Impact on Stroke Occurrence in a Society: A Population-Based Cohort Study
Conclusions: Meteorological effects on the frequency of ambulance transportation due to stroke were studied. A lower temperature and radical humidity change were identified as risk factors for ambulance transportation due to stroke, and a decrease in temperature was also associated. We speculate on the possibilities of using meteorological data to optimize the assignment of limited medical resources in medical economics.Cerebrovasc Dis Extra 2020;10:1 –10

Association between the Suita Score and Stroke Recurrence in Patients with First-ever Ischemic Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusion The Suita score, adapted for use in ischemic stroke with the same mechanism, correlated with the short-term recurrence within one year. Our findings suggest that the Suita score may be useful for predicting the long-term prognosis of developing CHD as well as the short-term recurrence for patients with first-ever AIS and TIA.PMID:35296620 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.7905-21

Association between Early Cognitive Impairment and Short-Term Functional Outcome in Acute Ischemic Stroke
Conclusions: Our findings suggest that PSCI, as well as PreSD, is possibly associated with the development of poor functional outcome in the acute care phase of ischemic stroke, and this association continues thereafter.Cerebrovasc Dis

Hazard perception of stroke drivers in a video-based Japanese hazard perception task.
CONCLUSIONS: Firstly, HP in stroke patients is low compared to age-matched drivers. Secondly, even if stroke patients notice hazards, their response may be delayed in a BP situation, due to a slower visual information processing speed. Thirdly, the lesion side does not appear to affect HP. PMID: 31013171 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
