Endovascular management and outcome of acute middle cerebral artery stroke in the setting of spontaneous carotid dissection (P1.012)
Conclusion: This study provides additional evidence that endovascular management of carotid artery dissection in acute middle cerebral artery is effective and safe to maintain distal revascularization. Revascularization can be achieved with a combination of stenting, large catheter mediated angioplasty and thrombectomy. Further studies are warranted to investigate the role of endovascular recanalization for this stroke subtypeDisclosure: Dr. Gulati has nothing to disclose. Dr. Aghaebrahim has nothing to disclose. Temporal Changes in Periprocedural Events in the Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The hypothesized temporal reduction of stroke+death events for carotid stenting–treated patients was not observed. Further adjustment for changes in patient characteristics between periods, including the addition of asymptomatic patients and a >50% decrease in proportion of octogenarians enrolled, resulted in practically identical rates. Percutaneous Coronary Intervention as a Trigger for Stroke
This study aimed to quantify the transient change in risk of stroke for up to 12 weeks after PCI. We applied the case-crossover method, using data from the Norwegian Patient Register on all hospitalizations in Norway in the period of 2008 through 2014. The relative risk (RR) of ischemic stroke was highest during the first two days after PCI (RR 17.5, 95% CI 4.2-72.8), and decreased gradually during the following weeks.

Will Mesh-covered stents help reduce stroke associated with carotid stent-angioplasty?
After a decade and a half of clinical studies on carotid stenting, several factors have become clear. Both carotid stenting (CAS) and endarterectomy (CEA) protect the patient from stroke over the long-term (1, 2). However, in the perioperative period, the risk of stroke is higher with stenting, especially minor stroke, and often presents in a delayed fashion. That is, a significant portion of neurologic events occur between one and thirty days following stent placement, long after the cerebral protection device has been removed (3-5).

Carotid endarterectomy: the change in practice over 11  years in a stroke centre
ConclusionThe trends in CEA practice at our centre align with international trends and guidelines. This study provides a representative indicator of Australian hospital practice, and illustrates how evidence from research is translated into clinical care.

Associations of common variants at ALDH2 gene and the risk of stroke in patients with coronary artery diseases undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
Limited data are available about the role of common variants at the aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 gene (ALDH2) on the clinical outcome in Chinese patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). In the present study, a total of 1089 patients were consecutively enrolled from January 2012 and July 2013. Six common variants at ALDH2 gene, including rs2339840, rs4648328, rs4767939, rs11066028, rs16941669, and rs671, were selected to test the associations of those polymorphisms with the cardiovascular outcome in patients with CHD after PCI. The clinical endpoints included cardiovascular...

Stroke and temporal arteritis: A study of 6 cases
ConclusionsStroke caused by giant cell arteritis is a serious and potentially severe condition which requires a high level of suspicion and early treatment with corticosteroids. New diagnostic techniques contribute to refining patient assessment and identifying the optimal treatment. Endovascular treatment may be a valid therapeutic option in selected patients.

All-cause mortality and the risk of stroke with selective aspiration thrombectomy in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention: A nationwide retrospective cohort study
Few data exist on the clinical outcomes of selective aspiration thrombectomy during primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). This was a nationwide retrospective cohort study. Patients who were diagnosed with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and received primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from July 2009 to December 2011 were identified from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan. Propensity score weighting was used to balance the covariates between the 2 study groups. The primary endpoints were all-cause mortality and stroke during hospitalization and at 30 days and 1 ye...
