Comparison of outcome in stroke patients admitted during working hours vs. off-hours; a single-center cohort study
Discussion and conclusionsThe overall outcome of stroke patients admitted to a large Dutch teaching hospital is not influenced by time of admission. When studying OH effects, adjustment for disease severity and poor prognostic findings on imaging is crucial before drawing conclusions on staffing and material.

Ischemic stroke: clinical pathway impact
International Journal of Health Care Quality Assurance,Volume 32, Issue 3, Page 588-598, April 2019. Purpose A clinical pathway for patients with acute ischemic stroke was implemented in 2014 by one Italian teaching hospital multidisciplinary team. The purpose of this paper is to determine whether this clinical pathway had a positive effect on patient management by comparing performance data. Design/methodology/approach Volume, process and outcome indicators were analyzed in a pre-post retrospective observational study. Patients ’ (admitted in 2013 and 2015) medical records with International Classification of Diseases, ...

Effects of the introduction of objective criteria for referral and discharge in physical therapy for ischemic stroke in China: a randomized controlled trial.
CONCLUSION: Introduction of a set of rules for referral and therapy input at different stages of rehabilitation partially improved patients' ADL and quality of life, but did not improve motor function. PMID: 31875687 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The Effect of Home Base Physical Activity Program based on the BASNEF Model on Motor Recovery in Patients with Stroke.
Authors: Esteki-Ghashghaei F, Saadatnia M, Khorvash F, Shahnazi H Abstract The present study aimed to determine the effect of education based on the BASNEF model on the physical activity and improvement of motor activity in patients with stroke. This randomized control trial study was conducted on 40 patients with acute ischemic stroke admitted to a teaching hospital in Isfahan, Iran from August 2017 to September 2018. The patients were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention included personal education and a manual CD of physical activity for the intervention group. After education,...

Reduction in the doses of direct oral anticoagulants and risk of ischemic stroke events: A hospital survey.
Abstract Inappropriately reduced doses (IRDs) of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are common in clinical practice. We performed a retrospective review using electronic medical records of St. Marianna University School of Medicine Hospital (a 1200-bed teaching hospital in Japan) to address the prevalence of IRDs and patient-related factors that result in IRDs. We also surveyed DOAC-treated patients who were hospitalized due to a stroke during the 5-year study period to analyze the association between stroke events and IRDs. We found that one in five patients who were newly prescribed a DOAC was treated with IRDs....

Development of a Nomogram for Predicting Asymptomatic Coronary Artery Disease in Patients with Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: The nomogram, composed of age, sex, NIHSS score on admission, hypertension history, fast glucose level, HDL cholesterol level, LDL cholesterol level, and presence of ≥50% cervicocephalic artery stenosis, can be used for prediction of ≥50% asymptomatic coronary artery disease (CAD). Further studies are needed to validate the effectiveness of this nomogram in other populations.PMID:35570518 | DOI:10.2174/1574887117666220513104303

Comparative Lung Function Performance of Stroke Survivors and Age‐matched and Sex‐matched Controls
DiscussionThe weakness of respiratory muscles associated with stroke may have contributed to decreases in lung function observed. There was a significant reduction in chest excursion of SS compared with CG. Chest excursion has been used as an indicator of respiratory muscle function because the range of motion of the thorax serves the respiration. Movements of the thorax influence the content of the thorax cavity, leading to alterations in lung volumes. Implications for Physiotherapy PracticeStroke survivors have lower lung function when compared with CG; this has implications for clinicians in stroke rehabilitation, under...

Case series of post-thrombolysis patients undergoing hemicraniectomy for malignant anterior circulation ischaemic stroke.
Authors: Williams A, Sittampalam M, Barua N, Mohd Nor A Abstract While ischaemic stroke remains a leading cause of death and disability, there have been recent advancements in treatment modalities including thrombolysis and decompressive hemicraniectomy. A retrospective review of patients treated in our NHS teaching hospital, in Plymouth (UK), over a 2 year period identified 17 thrombolysed patients, of whom two had undergone subsequent decompressive hemicraniectomy. These were non-dominant hemisphere strokes in young patients, aged 51 and 57. Initial NIHSS scores were 16 and 17, and they received thrombolysis at 2...
