Predictors of long-term return-to-work at five-year follow-up for mild-to-moderate subacute stroke patients enrolled in an early supported discharge program
CONCLUSIONS: Early identification of the characteristics of stroke patients enrolled into an ESD program who have the potential to RTW would make interventions more targeted, increasing the likelihood of RTW.PMID:35988246 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-210914

Antiplatelets and Anticoagulants in Ischemic Stroke,Transient Ischaemic Attack: A Practice Survey Among Singapore Neurologists
CONCLUSIONS: The widespread use of aspirin for long-term secondary prevention is similar to other countries. The variation in the use of antithrombotic agents in other settings may reflect the lack of sufficient evidence to guide therapy in the various specific stroke patient management scenarios.KEY WORDS: neurologist, practice, antiplatelet, anticoagulant, stroke, cerebrovascular disease.PMID:35470408

Optimal placement of electrodes for treatment of post-stroke dysphagia by neuromuscular electrical stimulation combined with effortful swallowing.
CONCLUSION: Horizontal placement of the NMES electrodes on the suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscles for the treatment of post-stroke dysphagia by NMES combined with effortful swallowing was more effective than the horizontal and vertical placement of electrodes on the suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscles, respectively, and their vertical placement above the hyoid bone and cricoid cartilage. Incentives for Uptake of and Adherence to Outpatient Stroke Rehabilitation Services: A Three-Arm Randomized Controlled Trial
Objective: To determine if rehabilitation uptake and adherence can be increased by providing coordinated transportation (increased convenience) and eliminating out-of-pocket costs (reduced expense).Design: Three-arm randomized controlled trialSetting: Stroke units of two Singapore tertiary hospitalsParticipants: Singaporeans or permanent residents aged ≥21 years who were diagnosed with stroke and discharged home with physician's recommendation to continue outpatient rehabilitation.Interventions: A Transportation Incentives arm (T), which provides free transportation services, a Transportation& Sessions Incentives arm (T&...

Psychometric Properties of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and Canadian Stroke Network Neuropsychological Battery in an Asian Older Adult Sample
Despite the wide usage of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and Canadian Stroke Network (NINDS-CSN) neuropsychological battery for the detection of vascular cognitive impairment, its reliability and validity have not been established. Therefore, the present study established the psychometric properties of the battery in cognitively normal older adults in a clinical setting in Singapore.

Cost Effectiveness of Genotype-Guided Antiplatelet Therapy in Asian Ischemic Stroke Patients: Ticagrelor as an Alternative to Clopidogrel in Patients with CYP2C19 Loss of Function Mutations
ConclusionThis study suggests that it is cost effective to screen for LOF mutations in the CYP2C19 gene in ischemic stroke populations, with ticagrelor as a substitute for clopidogrel in those with LOF mutations.

The Experiences and Evaluation of a Complex Intervention for Couples Coping With Stroke
CONCLUSION: New knowledge has been gained that the 3H intervention is useful and may be implemented in a clinical context before a patient's discharge from hospital. As a result of participating in the 3H intervention, effective coping was evident where participants engaged in conversations, cultivated a sense of support, and fulfilled their educational needs. Primary healthcare professionals should pay more attention to the difficulties and needs of this group of people, provide more resources to support them, and improve their quality of life.

Association of ambient air pollution with risk of hemorrhagic stroke: A time-stratified case crossover analysis of the Singapore stroke registry
CONCLUSION: Short-term exposure to ambient CO levels was associated with an increased risk of HS. A reduction in CO emissions may reduce the burden of HS in the population.PMID:34974273 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijheh.2021.113908
