Mortality and Vascular Events Among Elderly Patients With Chronic Myeloid Leukemia: A Retrospective Analysis of Linked SEER-Medicare Data
Conclusion Elderly patients with CML had greater mortality and greater rates of MI, stroke, PE, and PAD than did noncancer patients. The event rates were not elevated among the TKI-treated (primary imatinib) patients, suggesting that the VE risk in these patients with CML was driven primarily by the underlying factors associated with CML. Phenotypic variability in patients with ADA2 deficiency due to identical homozygous R169Q mutations
Conclusion. This case series revealed large phenotypic variability in patients with ADA2 deficiency though they were homozygous for the same R169Q mutation in CECR1. Disease modifiers, including epigenetic and environmental factors, thus seem important in determining the phenotype. Furthermore, haematopoietic cell transplantation appears promising for those patients with a severe clinical phenotype.

Paediatric acute lymphoblastic leukaemia causing acute leukaemic occlusion of the proximal middle cerebral artery: Treatment with endovascular thrombectomy
We describe an ischaemic stroke in an adolescent with ALL who underwent successful endovascular thrombectomy following leukaemic arterial occlusion. Endovascular thrombectomy should be considered in paediatric ALL patients with acute ischaemic stroke and large vessel occlusion.

Dendrobium nobile Lindl. polysaccharides reduce cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury in mice by increasing myeloid cell leukemia 1 via the downregulation of miR-134
Conclusions:
DNLP may protect the brain and neurons from hypoxic damage in mice with ischemic stroke by activating MCL-1 and downregulating miR-134, providing a new therapeutic target for ischemic stroke.

Transfusion thresholds for guiding red blood cell transfusion
CONCLUSIONS: Transfusion at a restrictive haemoglobin concentration decreased the proportion of people exposed to RBC transfusion by 41% across a broad range of clinical contexts. Environmental Pollution: An Under-recognized Threat to Children’s Health, Especially in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
Conclusions
Patterns of disease are changing rapidly in LMICs. Pollution-related chronic diseases are becoming more common. This shift presents a particular problem for children, who are proportionately more heavily exposed than are adults to environmental pollutants and for whom these exposures are especially dangerous. Better quantification of environmental exposures and stepped-up efforts to understand how to prevent exposures that cause disease are needed in LMICs and around the globe.
