Diabetes-related lower extremity complications in a multi-ethnic Asian population: a 10 year observational study in Singapore
Conclusions/interpretationThis study has revealed important ethnic differences in risk of diabetes-related lower limb complications, with Malays most likely to progress to DRLEC. Greater research efforts are needed to understand the aetiopathological and sociocultural processes that contribute to the higher risk of lower extremity complications among these ethnic groups.Graphical abstract

Preliminary study of patient safety and quality use cases for ICD-11 MMS
ConclusionsThe examples from the patient safety and quality use cases evaluated in this study are appropriate for ICD-11 MMS. It captures greater detail than ICD-10-CM, and ICD-11 MMS specificity would benefit both use cases. The authors believe this preliminary study indicates the US should invest resources to explore adopting the WHO ICD-11 MMS and tooling and guidelines to implement post-coordination.

Malnutrition Prevalence Rates among Dutch Nursing Home Residents: What Has Changed over One Decade? A Comparison of the Years 2009, 2013 and 2018
ConclusionEven though much attention has been paid to prevent malnutrition in Dutch nursing homes over the last decades, results show a relatively stable malnutrition prevalence rate of around 16%. This leads to the question if nursing staff is able to sufficiently recognize residents with (a risk of) malnutrition, and if they are aware of interventions they could perform to decrease this rate.

CT-angiography and Doppler ultrasonography in the evaluation of carotid artery stenosis: a comparative study
ConclusionDoppler ultrasound when performed by an experienced sonographer can be used as a reliable first line modality for carotid stenosis grading and to categorize patients as medical and potentially surgical cases. CTA can be used as a confirmatory method for patients with borderline stenosis, for presurgical planning and for patients with suspected stenosis of the intracerebral circulation.

ConclusionsOur study provides evidence of the burden of comorbidities in MS. Comorbidity is common in MS and produce additive costs.Key messagesThe use of administrative data for tracking the MS comorbidity could help knowledge gaps.When additivity situation is involved, preventive policies could lead to monetary savings.

Tube feeding in patients with dementia is associated with a longer palliative care unit stay
CONCLUSION: The present study showed that, in patients with an established diagnosis of dementia, TF is common and independently associated with a longer length of PCU stay. Incident peptic ulcers and concomitant treatment of direct oral anticoagulants and oral bisphosphonates —a real-world cohort study
ConclusionBased on our results, concomitant use of oBP and DOAC is associated with a slight increase in the risk of peptic ulcers compared to either drug alone. The prescribing physician should weigh the slight increased risk of ulcer in concomitant users of oBP and DOAC with beneficial reductions in stroke and fractures.
