Lateral Medullary Stroke in Patient with Granulomatous Polyangiitis
We report a 41-year-old man with lateral medullary infarction who developed rapidly progressive renal failure. He was diagnosed with GPA based on positive serum c-ANCA and antiproteinase 3 antibodies and demonstration of pauci-immune crescentic glomerulonephritis on kidney biopsy. He was treated with Coumadin, pulse steroids, cyclophosphamide, and plasmapheresis. He had resolution of his neurologic deficits and improvement in renal function. This case report highlights the importance to consider GPA vasculitis in the differential diagnosis of stroke in patients with development of acute kidney injury.

Ischemic stroke as a presenting feature of Wegener's granulomatosis.
We describe a 51-old-male who presented with complaints of slurred speech and left-sided weakness, along with bilateral pulmonary nodules on initial chest x-ray, which were associated with pulmonary symptoms in the past. A repeated computed tomography (CT) scan showed ischemia in the distribution of the right-middle cerebral artery. An open lung biopsy showed vasculitis with necrosis of a vessel wall, with a multinucleated giant cell, confirming the diagnosis of WG. The patient was successfully treated with cyclophosphamide and oral prednisone and he has continued in remission for one year. PMID: 24266130 [PubMed - in process]

Neurological Involvement in Primary Systemic Vasculitis
Conclusion Neurological involvement is a common complication of PSV (Table 1), and neurologists play an important role in the identification and diagnosis of PSV patients with otherwise unexplained neurological symptoms as their chief complaint. This article summarizes the neurological manifestations of PSV and hopes to improve neuroscientists' understanding of this broad range of diseases. TABLE 1 Table 1. Common CNS and PNS involvements of primary systemic vasculitis. Author Contributions SZ conceived the article and wrote the manuscript. DY and GT reviewed and edited the manuscript. All authors ...

Childhood-onset systemic polyarteritis nodosa and systemic lupus erythematosus: an overlap syndrome?
In conclusion, we described herein a possible overlap syndrome of two autoimmune diseases, where childhood-onset systemic polyarteritis nodosa occurred five years before the childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus diagnosis.

Glomerular Damage in Experimental Proliferative Glomerulonephritis Under Glomerular Capillary Hypertension
Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that glomerular hypertension aggravate glomerular damage and glomerulosclerosis in this model of Thy 1 nephritis.Kidney Blood Press Res 2015;40:188-199

Case Report: Acute Cerebellar Thrombosis in an Adult Patient with IgM Nephropathy.
We describe a patient who presented with nonspecific symptoms of epigastric pain, nausea, and early satiety. Abdominal imaging and endoscopies were unremarkable. She was found to have significant proteinuria (6.4 g/24 hours), hyperlipidemia, and edema consistent with a diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome. Kidney biopsy was performed and confirmed an IgM nephropathy. Less than 2 weeks after her diagnosis of IgM nephropathy, she presented with an acute cerebellar stroke. Thrombophilia is a well-known complication of nephrotic syndrome, but a review of the literature failed to show an association between IgM nephropathy and acute...

Anticoagulant-related nephropathy: a case report and review of the literature of an increasingly recognized entity
Abstract Treatment with oral anticoagulants has been associated with worsening kidney function in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) as well as among patients without underlying CKD. Thus, anticoagulant-related nephropathy (ARN) is an increasingly recognized entity nowadays, mainly associated with warfarin anticoagulation. Recent evidence indicates that patients treated with the direct anticoagulants may also be at risk of ARN. However, the true incidence of anticoagulant-related nephropathy is difficult to determine. The typical histological lesion involves renal tubular occlusion by red blood cells (RBCs), tubu...

Double-Valve Heart Disease and Glomerulonephritis Consequent to Abiotrophia defectiva Endocarditis.
We present the first case of A. defectiva infective endocarditis that led to antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated glomerulonephritis. The patient was a 55-year-old man whose endocarditis affected the mitral and aortic valves. His course was complicated by atrial fibrillation, stroke, and glomerulonephritis. He was successfully treated with antibiotics and dual valve replacement. PMID: 32148451 [PubMed - in process]

A Semantic Analysis and Community Detection-Based Artificial Intelligence Model for Core Herb Discovery from the Literature: Taking Chronic Glomerulonephritis Treatment as a Case Study.
Authors: Zhang Y, Liu Y, Zhu J, Zhai S, Jin R, Wen C Abstract The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula is the main treatment method of TCM. A formula often contains multiple herbs where core herbs play a critical therapeutic effect for treating diseases. It is of great significance to find out the core herbs in formulae for providing evidences and references for the clinical application of Chinese herbs and formulae. In this paper, we propose a core herb discovery model CHDSC based on semantic analysis and community detection to discover the core herbs for treating a certain disease from large-scale literatur...

Clinicohistological Profile and Outcomes of Rapidly Progressive Glomerulonephritis: A Prospective Study from North India
This study included 40 patients of biopsy-proven RPGN. The diagnosis of RPGN was based on renal histology showing crescents in >50% of glomeruli. All patients were given induction with intravenous (IV) methylprednisolone (0.5 g) for three days followed by maintenance with oral prednisolone (1 mg/kg/day) and six IV pulses of cyclophosphamide (0.5 g) given fortnightly followed by maintenance therapy with azathioprine (2 mg/kg/day). The outcomes were recorded. Three-fourth of the patients (77.4%) required renal replacement therapy (RRT) at diagnosis. More than half of patients (57.5%) were antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibo...
