Predicting 10-year stroke mortality: development and validation of a nomogram
AbstractPredicting long-term stroke mortality is a clinically important and unmet need. We aimed to develop and internally validate a 10-year ischaemic stroke mortality prediction score. In this UK cohort study, 10,366 patients with first-ever ischaemic stroke between January 2003 and December 2016 were followed up for a median (interquartile range) of 5.47 (2.96 –9.15) years. A Cox proportional-hazards model was used to predict 10-year post-admission mortality. The predictors associated with 10-year mortality included age, sex, Oxfordshire Community Stroke Project classification, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eG...

Circulating Fetuin-A and Risk of Ischemic Stroke in Women Proteomics and Protein Markers
CONCLUSIONS: In this sample of women, fetuin-A was not significantly associated with risk of ischemic stroke. Further research is needed to explore this association.

The Association Between Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease, Stroke, and Extrahepatic Cancers
CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD is associated with increased risks of CVD and stroke or cerebrovascular disease among adults. There appears to be increased risk of breast and colorectal cancers. Given low quality of evidence, it is premature to make any strong conclusions to modify CVD, stroke, or cancer screening policies in patients with NAFLD.PMID:33679048 | PMC:PMC7897860 | DOI:10.1016/j.jceh.2020.04.018

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease frequency and associated factors at admission of acute stroke
ConclusionsThe frequency of NAFLD was high in our patient group. Significant NAFLD-presence factors were high BMI, low AST/ALT ratio, high serum albumin level, high PA%, and high DGLA level. A further study is warranted to determine the effects of the NAFLD-presence factors on stroke onset or prevention.

NAFLD increases Risk of Carotid Atherosclerosis and Ischemic Stroke. An Updated Meta-Analysis with 135,602 Individuals
CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis shows that a stepwise increment of steatosis of NAFLD can significantly increase the odds of carotid atherosclerosis and stroke development in NAFLD. More than a third suffer from carotid atherosclerosis and routine assessment of carotid atherosclerosis is quintessential in NAFLD.PMID:35232007 | DOI:10.3350/cmh.2021.0406
