Major complications associated with unfavorable outcome in right ‐sided large hemisphere infarctions: A single‐center study
ConclusionsMost of the RLHI patients have at least one stroke-related complication during hospitalization, and nearly three-quarters suffered unfavorable outcomes. Only MBE, pulmonary infection, and hypoalbuminemia are independently associated with 3-month unfavorable outcome.

Blood pressure-lowering effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists for preventing of cardiovascular events and death in type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionIn patients with type 2 diabetes, the hypotensive effects of SGLT2i and GLP-1 RAs were significantly associated with a reduction in mortality and cardiorenal events. These findings suggest that the lowering BP effect could be seen as an additive indicator of cardiovascular protection by SGLT2i and GLP-1 RAs drugs.

Transapical aortic valve implantation: mid-term outcome from the SOURCE registry ADULT CARDIAC
CONCLUSIONS These results demonstrate that in elderly patients with severe co-morbidities, TA aortic valve implantation results in excellent mid-term results. Causes of death during the mid-term follow-up are mainly non-cardiac and related to co-morbidities.

Outcomes of off-pump versus on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting: Impact of preoperative risk
Background: It is unknown whether purported benefits of off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting are patient-specific within the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Cardiac Database or dependent on center volume or operating surgeon. Methods: The Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Cardiac Database was queried for all patients undergoing nonemergency, isolated coronary artery bypass between January 1, 2005, and December 31, 2010, who had Predicted Risk of Mortality scores and participant/surgeon identifiers. Of these 876,081 patients (“all sites”), 210,469 underwent surgery at participant sites that had performed mo...

A 14-year experience with blunt thoracic aortic injury
Conclusions: The incidence of BTAT is low but the mortality associated with it is significant. During the 14-year period studied, there was a clear change in management preference from open repair to endovascular repair at our level 1 trauma center. Outcomes, including stroke, MI, renal failure, paralysis, length of stay, and death, appear to be reduced in the endovascular group.

Physical comorbidity and its relevance on mortality in schizophrenia: a naturalistic 12-year follow-up in general hospital admissions.
Authors: Schoepf D, Uppal H, Potluri R, Heun R Abstract Schizophrenia is a major psychotic disorder with significant comorbidity and mortality. Patients with schizophrenia are said to suffer more type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and diabetogenic complications. However, there is little consistent evidence that comorbidity with physical diseases leads to excess mortality in schizophrenic patients. Consequently, we investigated whether the burden of physical comorbidity and its relevance on hospital mortality differed between patients with and without schizophrenia in a 12-year follow-up in general hospital admissions....

151 * comparison of intermittent cold versus intermittent warm blood cardioplegia in 2200 adult cardiac surgery patients
Conclusions: In elective cardiac surgery, there was no difference in clinical outcome between cold and warm blood cardioplegia. In emergency patients, however, with most of them operated on in acute coronary syndrome, warm cardioplegia might be an option to improve outcome.

Predictors of 1-year outcomes in the Taiwan Acute Coronary Syndrome Full Spectrum Registry.
CONCLUSION: There is a significant deviation from evidence-based guidelines in ACS management in Taiwan as reported in other countries. Policy adherence, especially with regard to dual antiplatelet therapy may hold the key to long-term favorable outcomes and improved survival rates in ACS patients in Taiwan. The effect of the Cox-maze procedure for atrial fibrillation concomitant to mitral and tricuspid valve surgery
Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with less favorable outcomes in patients undergoing mitral valve and tricuspid valve surgery. Despite growing evidence on the potential benefits of surgical ablation for AF there is significant variability among surgeons in treatment of AF. The purpose of our study was to assess the effect of the Cox-maze procedure on operative and follow-up outcomes. Methods: In our prospective study, patients who underwent isolated mitral valve or mitral valve+tricuspid valve surgery without history of AF (n = 506), with untreated AF (n = 75), or with Cox-maze procedure (n = 236) we...

Transcatheter Versus Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients With Diabetes and Severe Aortic Stenosis at High Risk for Surgery An Analysis of the PARTNER Trial (Placement of Aortic Transcatheter Valve)
ConclusionsAmong patients with diabetes and severe symptomatic AS at high risk for surgery, this post-hoc stratified analysis of the PARTNER trial suggests there is a survival benefit, no increase in stroke, and less renal failure from treatment with transcatheter AVR compared with surgical AVR. Prolonged anticoagulant activity of rivaroxaban in a polymorbid elderly female with non-convulsive epileptic state
Conclusion: Health care providers should consider renal function, concomitant medication, polymorbidity and age prior to prescribing rivaroxaban. Care has to be taken when prescribing rivaroxaban to patients who are different from those included in the ROCKET AF trial.
