Spontaneous calcific cerebral embolization revealing a calcified rheumatic mitral stenosis: a case report
ConclusionSpontaneous calcified cerebral emboli secondary to mitral valve leaflet calcifications is an extremely rare condition. Replacement of the valve is the only option to prevent recurrent emboli and outcomes are still to be determined.

Non-major bleeding risk of direct oral anticoagulants versus vitamin K antagonists for stroke prevention with atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
ConclusionsBased on current evidence, for stroke prevention in patients with AF, the safest DOAC is apixaban in terms of non-major bleeding. This suggests that apixaban may have a lower risk of non-major bleeding than other anticoagulants and may help provide some clinical reference for choosing a more appropriate drug for the patient.

Long Term Outcomes and Anticoagulation in Mitral Valve Surgery - A Report from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Database
CONCLUSIONS: Anticoagulation was used in less than half of mitral valve surgery. In MVrep patients, warfarin was associated with increased bleeding and was not protective against either stroke or mortality. In BMVR patients, warfarin was associated with a modest survival benefit, increased bleeding and equivalent stroke risk. DOACs use in extreme body-weighted patients: results from the prospective START-register
ConclusionsDOACs seem to be effective and safe also for the treatment of patients with extreme body weights, both underweight and overweight. Further prospective studies are needed to support these findings.
