Vitamin K Antagonist Use and Risk for Intracranial Carotid Artery Calcification in Patients With Intracerebral Hemorrhage
Conclusions: Our findings do not support VKA use as an independent risk factor for higher ICAC degree in patients with ICH. We could not confirm the concerns about VKA use and intracranial carotid vascular calcification. We suggest further research in other cohorts with VKA users such as patients with ischemic stroke and atrial fibrillation.

Optimization of risk stratification for anticoagulation-associated intracerebral hemorrhage: net risk estimation
ConclusionsIn this anticoagulation-associated ICH cohort, baseline hemorrhagic risk exceeded ischemic risk in approximately 50%, highlighting the importance of careful consideration of risk/benefit ratio prior to anticoagulation decisions. The remaining 50% suffered an ICH despite excess baseline ischemic risk, stressing the need for biomarkers to allow more precise estimation of hemorrhagic complication risk.

Comparing the Effectiveness and Safety of Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants and Warfarin in the Elderly Asian Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: A Nationwide Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Compared to warfarin, NOACs were associated with a significantly lower risk of adverse events, with heterogeneity in treatment effects among different age strata. Four-year trends in oral anticoagulant use and declining rates of ischemic stroke among 194,030 atrial fibrillation patients drawn from a sample of 12 million people
ConclusionThere was a slight increase in the prevalence of AF between 2012 and 2015, while the overall use of antiplatelet agents decreased and that of OAC, particularly DOACs, increased. Over the same period, 1 year hospitalizations for ischemic stroke declined substantially, with a declining rate of hemorrhagic strokes.

Vitamin K Antagonist (Phenprocoumon) and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A Single-Center, Matched-Pair Analysis
ConclusionPatients with phenprocoumon treatment at the time of SAH are significantly older, admission status is worse, and 30-day mortality rates are significantly higher compared to patients without anticoagulant treatment. However, outcome at 6  months did not differ to the matched-pair control group but seems to be strongly associated with the underlying cardiovascular disease. Treatment of these patients is challenging and should be performed on an interdisciplinary base in each individual case. Careful decision-making regarding discont inuation and bridging of anticoagulation and close observation is mandatory.

Oral anticoagulants are the preferred therapy for the treatment of venous thromboembolism and for stroke prevention among patients with atrial fibrillation. Given their widespread use, clinicians must balance efficacy of anticoagulation with their associated bleeding risks. Specifically, intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is the most feared complication as this form of bleeding has the highest mortality and morbidity. To date, clinical trials suggest a lower incidence of ICH and better safety profile among patients prescribed the direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) compared with traditional vitamin k antagonists (VKAs).
