Astragaloside IV alleviates stroke-triggered early brain injury by modulating neuroinflammation and ferroptosis via the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway
CONCLUSIONS: Hence, the findings of this research illustrate that AS-IV administration can improve delayed ischemic neurological deficits and decrease neuronal death by modulating nuroinflammation and ferroptosis via the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway.PMID:36995819 | PMC:PMC10041803 | DOI:10.1590/acb380723

Stellate ganglion block suppresses hippocampal ferroptosis to attenuate cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury via the Hippo pathway
In conclusion, SGB inhibited ferroptosis of hippocampal neurons via activating the Hippo pathway and thereby alleviated I/R injury. The data provide a novel insight into the treatment of ischemic stroke and even other ischemic encephalopathies.Graphical Abstract

Muscone promotes functional recovery by facilitating microglia polarization into M2 phenotype through PPAR- γ pathway after ischemic stroke
Cell Immunol. 2023 Mar 5;386:104704. doi: 10.1016/j.cellimm.2023.104704. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExploring regimens to facilitate microglia transformation from M1 to M2 phenotype is a feasible strategy to suppress neuroinflammation, therefore reinforcing functional recovery after ischemic stroke. Muscone easily crosses the blood brain barrier (BBB) and distributes throughout the brain. Here, the results illustrated the administration of 8 mg/kg muscone promoted functional recovery through reducing the infarct volume by 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining after ischemic stroke in mice. Then, the express...

Exercise pretreatment alleviates neuroinflammation and oxidative stress by TFEB-mediated autophagic flux in mice with ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Exercise pretreatment has the potential to improve the prognosis of ischemic stroke patients, and it can exert neuroprotective effects in ischemic stroke by inhibiting neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, which might be due to the TFEB-mediated autophagic flux. And targeting autophagic flux may be promising strategies for the treatment of ischemic stroke.PMID:36914085 | DOI:10.1016/j.expneurol.2023.114380

A Novel Rat Model of Embolic Cerebral Ischemia Using a Cell-Implantable Radiopaque Hydrogel Microfiber
We present a novel rat model of focal infarct restricted to the middle cerebral artery territory using a radiopaque hydrogel microfiber positioned under fluoroscopic guidance. By comparing the use of stem cell-containing versus non-containing fibers in this stroke model, it would be possible to determine the efficacy of "pure" cell transplantation in treating stroke.PMID:36867349 | DOI:10.1007/s12975-023-01144-6

Continuous ingestion of sodium chloride solution promotes allergen absorption and may exacerbate allergy symptoms on ovalbumin-induced food allergy in mice
In this study, we investigated the effect of continuous ingestion of sodium chloride (NaCl) on allergy symptoms using a mouse model of food allergy. BALB/c mice were divided into four groups of 6-8 animals each. The control-water group (CW) and sensitization-water group (SW) groups were provided free access to water, and the control-1% NaCl group (CS) and sensitization-1% NaCl group (SS) groups were provided a 1% NaCl solution. The SW and SS groups were sensitized with 50 µg ovalbumin (OVA) at 2 timepoints by intraperitoneal injection. After oral administration of OVA, anaphylactic response was measured and blood was coll...

Protective Effect of Erythromycin Pre-adaptation on Focal Cerebral Ischemia in Rats and its Changes in TNF- α and nNOS
CONCLUSIONS: Erythromycin preconditioning had a protective effect against focal cerebral ischemia in rats, and the best protective effect occurred for the 35-mg/kg preconditioning. The reason may be related to the fact that erythromycin preconditioning significantly upregulated nNOS and downregulated TNF-α in the brain tissue.PMID:36795522
