Low Hemoglobin Levels and Recurrent Falls in U.S. Men and Women: Prospective Findings from the REasons for Geographic And Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) Cohort.
CONCLUSIONS:: Among men, lower hemoglobin levels were associated with an increased risk for recurrent falls. Although our findings suggest an increased risk for recurrent falls at both lower and higher hemoglobin levels among women, these findings should be confirmed in subsequent studies. Metastatic undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma causing intraoperative stroke.
We report a case of a dedifferentiated liposarcoma that metastasized to the lung within one year. The histologic morphology of the metastasis was more aggressive than the primary lesion, and was consistent with a pleomorphic undifferentiated sarcoma. Following surgical resection of the metastatic pulmonary lesion, the patient never fully regained consciousness. He expired the day following his surgery. At autopsy, the patient was found to have died from a massive hemorrhagic stroke involving almost the entire left cerebrum. Tumor emboli from the pulmonary metastasis were seen in the left middle cerebral artery, causing the...

Diabetes as a Risk Factor for Stroke in Women Compared With Men: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of 64 Cohorts, Including 775,385 Individuals and 12,539 Strokes
Evidence from the World Health Organization indicates that cardiovascular risk is higher in individuals with diabetes. Furthermore, a growing body of evidence suggests that the relative risk (RR) of diabetes-related coronary heart disease is higher in women than in men. This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to elucidate whether this sex difference in RR also exists for stroke by identifying 64 cohort studies in PubMed reporting the sex-specific estimates of the relative risk for stroke associated with diabetes.

Longitudinal randomised controlled trials in rehabilitation post-stroke: a systematic review on the quality of reporting and use of baseline outcome values
Conclusions: Our review showed that improvements were needed in the analysis of longitudinal trials in rehabilitation post-stroke in order to maximise the use of collected data and improve comparability between studies. Reporting fully the method used (including baseline adjustment) and using methods like mixed models could easily achieve this.

Establishment and validation of a prediction model for ischemic stroke risks in patients with type 2 diabetes
Diabetes is a formidable global health threat because of its high prevalence and numerous complications. Furthermore, diabetes is a leading cause of mortality and microvascular and macrovascular diseases, including coronary diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and peripheral vascular diseases. A recent study reports that risk of stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes is two to five times higher than the general population[1]. The World Health Organization MONICA project reported that stroke incidence is higher among ethnic Chinese population than among Western population [2].

The struggle for stroke reclassification, Published online: 29 June 2018; doi:10.1038/s41582-018-0036-5Stroke has been misplaced in the International Classification of Disease (ICD) since 1955, but is now classed as a neurological disease in the new ICD-11.
