The Effects of Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonists on Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With End ‐Stage Renal Disease and Heart Failure
ConclusionsIn patients undergoing regular dialysis who are diagnosed with heart failure, the use of MRAs is associated with lower risks of all-cause mortality and CV death. The benefits of MRA treatment in heart failure may persist in patients with ESRD. Further investigations through randomized controlled trials are needed to assess the efficacy and safety of MRAs in this high-risk population. This article is protected by copyright. Long-Term Effectiveness of Cilostazol in Patients with Hemodialysis with Peripheral Artery Disease
CONCLUSION: Continuous treatment of cilostazol in patients with HD with PAD significantly decreases the risk of ED visits, hemorrhagic stroke, and cardiovascular events and improves ED visit-free and cardiovascular event-free rates during long-term follow-up.PMID:36216573 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63404

Medicare Bundled Payment Policy on Anemia Care, Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events, and Mortality among Adults Undergoing Hemodialysis
CONCLUSIONS: The Medicare reimbursement policy and Food and Drug Administration-recommended erythropoietin-stimulating agent dosing changes were associated with lower erythropoietin-stimulating agent use and lower hemoglobin levels. These changes in anemia care were associated with lower risks of major adverse cardiovascular event, stroke, mortality, and heart failure but higher risk of acute myocardial infarction among adults receiving hemodialysis.PMID:35589388 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.14361121

Atrial fibrillation and associated outcomes in patients with peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis: a 14-year nationwide population-based study.
CONCLUSION: In patients with ESRD undergoing dialysis, PD had lowered risks of new onset of AF compared to HD. Subsequently, these AF patients in PD group had comparable incidence of ischemic stroke but decreased incidence of hemorrhagic stroke compared to AF patients in HD group. PD could be the most suitable modality in patients at risk for the onset of AF. PMID: 32086785 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Connective Tissue Disorders in Patients With Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura: A Retrospective Analysis Using a National Database.
Conclusion: TTP and CTD frequently co-existed and contributed to a longer hospital stay and a greater hospital charge. PMID: 31236170 [PubMed]

Long-Term Clinical Outcome of Drug-Eluting vs. Bare-Metal Stent Implantation After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in End-Stage Renal Disease Patients on Hemodialysis - Nationwide Cohort Study in Taiwan.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients on chronic hemodialysis, implantation of DES did not have a better clinical outcome than BMS. PMID: 31019157 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Medical Conditions Among Survivors of Adolescent and Young Adult Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL), Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
Conclusion: This study found that sociodemographic factors were associated with the risk of developing medical conditions in AYA NHL, ALL and AML survivors. As expected, the risk of medical conditions varied by cancer type and treatment, with those undergoing SCT having a higher risk of medical conditions regardless of cancer type. NHL and ALL survivors who were uninsured or publicly insured were at a consistently higher risk of developing medical conditions, as were Hispanic ALL survivors and Black AML survivors. Our findings highlight the higher burden of medical conditions in subgroups of cancer survivors that may relat...

Warfarin Use in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Undergoing Hemodialysis Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Our findings suggest that warfarin should be used carefully in hemodialysis patients, given the higher risk of hemorrhagic events and the lack of ability to prevent thromboembolic complications.

Risk of Stroke in Elderly Dialysis Patients.
Authors: Han SS, Ryu DR, Joo KW, Lim CS, Kim YL, Kang SW, Kim YS, Kim DK Abstract Despite the current knowledge about the risk of stroke and its related factors in general population, this issue in elderly patients receiving dialysis remains unresolved. Firstly, to compare the risk of stroke between hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD), data on 13,065 incident dialysis patients (aged ≥ 65 years; 10,675 in HD and 2,390 in PD) were retrieved from the Korean Health Insurance dataset. Secondly, to identify the risk factors of stroke amongst various clinical and laboratory parameters in HD, 980 elderly patie...

Free Tissue Transfers for Head and Neck Reconstruction in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease on Dialysis: Analysis of Outcomes Using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database
Conclusion Despite greater preoperative risk factors, patients with renal failure on hemodialysis do not appear to have a higher rate of free flap failure following head and neck reconstruction. However, other complications can be minimized by optimizing patient's medical condition to succeed with this reconstructive effort.
