Carotid artery plaque detected on ultrasound is associated with impaired cognitive state in the elderly: A population-based study in Wakiso district, Uganda
This study set out to determine the prevalence of abnormal carotid ultrasound findings and their association with cognitive function among the adults ≥60 years in Wakiso district, Uganda in 2018. A total of 210 participants were included. Carotid artery stenosis, presence of plaque, stenosis and intima-media thickness were assessed by ultrasound. Bilateral ischemia of the insular cortex after high altitude climbing: A case report
We describe the case of a caucasian woman who had a bilateral insular ischemic stroke after a rapid ascent above 4000 m in which a secondary embolic dissemination due to a right insular stroke, maybe related to high altitude hemoconcentration, could be hypothesized. In our opinion a prolonged cardiac rhythm monitoring have to be considered especially when no other embolic sources are found and for lesions involving the insular cortex.

Acute isolated aphasia as a challenging symptom in the emergency setting: Predictors of epileptic mimic versus ischemic stroke
ConclusionsOur study underscores the importance of an accurate clinical bed-side assessment as the first step in the diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making process for patients presenting with aphasia. The detection of clinical and anamnestic features associated with an epileptic SM could be useful for the diagnostic process and for time-critical treatments.

Association between gender and stoke recurrence in ischemic stroke patients with high-grade carotid artery stenosis
In conclusion, male gender is associated with increased risk of recurrent ischemic stroke in patients with high-grade ICA stenosis during 5-year follow-up. Further prospective trial to assess whether male gender may benefit from more aggressive vascular risk factors control and treatment strategies for stroke prevention is warranted.

This study investigated the time taken for upper extremity spasticity to develop and its regional difference after first-ever stroke onset in a nationwide multicenter study in South Korea. The retrospective observational study included 861 individuals with post-stroke spasticity in the upper limbs. Here, we describe two cases of stroke from an unusual aetiology; cerebral embolization from carotid artery injury presumed secondary to hyoid bone impingement. Both patients demonstrated angiographic evidence of hyoid bone impingement. Following resection of the greater cornu of the hyoid bone, neither patient had further strokes.
