Acute reversal of dabigatran with Idarucizumab for intravenous thrombolysis as acute stroke treatment
We describe the case of a 73 year old male with AIS and active dabigatran use. Idarucizumab was administered per an approved medical center protocol and the patient was subsequently treated with IV rt-PA. The patient had a severe stroke with no other contraindications to IV rt-PA other than dabigatran use. The patient was administered Idarucizumab and IV rt-PA was given. Within 24 h of treatment, the patient had minimal stroke deficits. Imaging revealed a right middle cerebral artery patchy infarct. The patient was restarted on dabigatran therapy for his atrial fibrillation and was discharged to a skilled nursing facil...

Impact of venous thromboembolism during admission for meningioma surgery on hospital charges and postoperative complications
Publication date: Available online 9 October 2018Source: Journal of Clinical NeuroscienceAuthor(s): Eleonora F. Spinazzi, Darshan Shastri, Milap Raikundalia, Nicole A. Silva, Jean Anderson Eloy, James K. LiuAbstractSurgical resection of meningiomas has been associated with high rates of venous thromboembolic events (VTE) as compared with all other intracranial tumors. There is a paucity of data regarding the clinical complications and comorbidities associated with this cohort yet the underlying pathophysiological mechanism for this tumor-specific finding remains unclear. Our goal was to determine the various impacts of VTE...

Association of serum lipids with clinical outcome in acute ischaemic stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis
This study aimed at assessing the association between serum lipid and clinical outcomes in acute ischaemic stroke. Relevant data were obtained from Cochrane Library, PubMed and Web of Science databases. The heterogeneity of pooled results was determined by the Cochran’s Q test and Higgins I-squared statistic. The random-effect model was performed to calculate the pooled results if PH < 0.05 for Q-test, otherwise the fixed-effect model was applied. The primary results were death, and the secondary were recurrence, dependency, mRS score ≥3, and early neurological deterioration. A total of 21 full-text studies was...

Predictors of 30-day mortality after endovascular mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionWe observed a moderate rate of 30-day mortality after EMT at an academic CSC. Older age, higher baseline NIHSS score, higher NIHSS score at 24 h after thrombectomy, and lower rates of successful revascularization were predictive of 30-day mortality in univariate analysis. Further efforts to identify modifiable risk factors of mortality are warranted.
