Meta-Analysis of Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Bioprosthetic Valves
Valvular heart disease is frequently complicated by atrial fibrillation, which is associated with an increased risk of mortality. In the presence of a surgical or transcatheter bioprosthetic valve, patients with atrial fibrillation are at increased risks of systemic thromboembolism.1 Although direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have been shown to be non-inferior or superior to warfarin in preventing stroke or thromboembolism associated with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, the utilization of DOACs in patients with prior bioprosthetic valves has been limited in randomized clinical trials (RCTs).

Effect of Adenotonsillectomy on Cardiac function in Children Age 5-13 years with Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with hypertension, stroke, heart failure, coronary artery disease and atrial fibrillation in adults1-5. Currently, there is conflicting evidence regarding the degree of improvement in cardiovascular outcomes among adults who are treated for OSA6, 7. Several studies have shown that continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy in adults partially reverses left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) dysfunction6, lowers blood pressure8, decreases pulmonary artery pressure9 and improves endothelial dysfunction10.

We aimed to evaluate the role of gender differences in the outcomes of catheter-based peripheral arterial disease interventions on a national level. We queried the National Inpatient Sample Database and identified all patients who presented with acute or symptomatic long term limb ischemia requiring transcatheter nonsurgical peripheral intervention in the years of 2016 to 2017. The primary outcome was major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), defined as the composite end point of in-hospital mortality, nonfatal stroke, and acute myocardial infarction.

Safety and Effectiveness of Long-term Anticoagulation for Atrial Fibrillation Among Nonagenarians: A Real-world Analysis
The prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) increases with age, reaching 10% among those over 80 years old (1). Long-term anticoagulation (AC) is effective in reducing strokes among patients with AF at increased risk of thromboembolic events (2). The safety and effectiveness of AC among nonagenarians are poorly understood, since these patients were underrepresented in the pivotal trials of AC.1 While age is an independent risk factor for stroke in patients with AF, the net clinical benefit of AC may be mitigated by an increased risk of bleeding (3,4).

Optimization of GRACE Risk Stratification by N-Terminal Pro-B-Type Natriuretic Peptide Combined with D-dimer in Patients with Non-ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction
We aimed to explore the utility of multiple biomarkers with GRACE risk stratification for non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). A total of 1357 patients diagnosed with NSTEMI were enrolled in this study at multiple medical centers in Tianjin, China. The outcomes were 1-year all-cause death and major adverse cardiac events (MACE: all-cause death, hospital admission for unstable angina, hospital admission for heart failure, non-fatal recurrent myocardial infarction, and stroke). C-index, NRI and IDI were calculated to verify that the biomarkers improve the predictive accuracy of the GRACE score.

Relation between Thyroid Function and Mortality in patients with Chronic Heart Failure
Thyroid hormones have genomic and non-genomic effects on the cardiovascular system. They increase stroke volume, heart rate, and reduce systemic vascular resistance. (1) Overt thyroid disease (both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism) can cause heart failure. (2) Subclinical thyroid dysfunction is present when serum thyroid-stimulating hormone level (TSH) is outside the reference range, but free thyroxine (fT4), and total or free triiodothyronine level (T3) are normal. (3) In subclinical hyperthyroidism, TSH is low, and in subclinical hypothyroidism, TSH is raised.

Meta-Analysis of Cerebral Embolic Protection During Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has evolved as an important treatment option for patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis. Despite advancements with device design, procedural techniques, and improved operator experience, stroke rates after TAVR have not declined( ∼2.5%), as per the recent data from the national cardiovascular database registry.1 Embolic protection devices (EPDs) were introduced to prevent embolization of thrombotic or calcified debris during TAVR. However, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that investigated the efficacy and safety of the se devices have been underpowered for clinical endpoints.

Meta-Analysis Comparing the Frequency of Carotid Artery Stenosis in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation  and Vice Versa
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and carotid stenosis (CS) can co-exist and this association has been reported to result in a higher risk of stroke than attributed to either condition alone. Here we aimed to summarize the data on the association of CS and AF. MEDLINE and Embase were searched to identify all published studies providing relevant data through 27 February 2020. Random-effects meta-analysis method was used to pool estimates of prevalence. Heterogeneity was assessed by mean I-squared statistic.

Meta-Analysis of Bioprosthetic Valve Thrombosis after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation
Bioprosthetic valve thrombosis may complicate transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). This meta-analysis sought to evaluate the prevalence and clinical impact of subclinical leaflet thrombosis (SLT) and clinical valve thrombosis (CVT) after TAVI. We summarized diagnostic strategies, prevalence of SLT and/or CVT and estimated their impact on the risk of all-cause death and stroke. Twenty studies with 12,128 patients were included. The prevalence of SLT and CVT was 15.1% and 1.2%, respectively.
