Vascular phenotype at 35-37  weeks' gestation in women with gestational diabetes mellitus
CONCLUSION: Women with GDM have evidence of early vascular disease and this may contribute to their long-term cardiovascular risk. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.PMID:36173400 | DOI:10.1002/uog.26077

The response of internal carotid artery blood flow velocity to fluid challenge under general anesthesia in pediatric patients with moyamoya disease: a prospective observational study
CONCLUSIONS: The internal carotid artery blood flow velocity did not increase in pediatric patients with moyamoya disease under general anesthesia, despite fluid challenge and corresponding changes in the blood pressure and cardiac output. Intraoperative hemodynamic management to improve the cerebral blood flow in these patients requires further investigation.PMID:36164813 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14558

MicroRNA and Hemostasis Profile of Carotid Atherosclerosis
We described the miRNA and hemostasis profile of patients with moderate and advanced stages of carotid atherosclerosis and elucidated potential correlations with hemostatic activation. A prospective case-control study included 61 patients with evidence of carotid atherosclerosis (via ultrasound). The study population was divided into groups depending on the degree of carotid artery stenosis: 60% or more (advanced) and <60% (moderate). All patients underwent the following blood tests: general blood test, hemostatic parameters and microRNA. Extraction of microRNA was performed using Leukocyte RNA Purification Kit (NOR...

Incidence, kinetics, and risk factors for intra- and extracranial cerebral arteriopathies in a newborn sickle cell disease cohort early assessed by transcranial and cervical color Doppler ultrasound
We report a prospective longitudinal cohort study including 493 children with SCD (398 SCA, 95 SC/Sβ+), all assessed by transcranial and cervical color Doppler ultrasound. Cerebral MRI/MRA data were available in 375 children with SCD and neck MRA in 365 children. eICA kinkings were defined as eICA tortuosities on neck MRA, with an internal acute angle between the two adjacent segments <90°. The median follow-up was 10.6 years. The cumulative incidence of kinkings was significantly lower in SC/Sβ+ children than in children with SCA, and no SC/Sβ+ child developed intra- or extracranial stenotic arteriopathy. The 10-ye...

Carotid contrast-enhanced ultrasonography combined with sirtuin-3 in the diagnosis of plaques in carotid atherosclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: A low expression of SIRT3 predicted a higher risk for unstable plaques in CAS patients. The combination of CEUS and SIRT3 is a potential strategy for diagnosing unstable plaques.PMID:36083252 | DOI:10.17219/acem/152471

Utility of ultrasound as a promising diagnostic tool for stroke-related sarcopenia: A retrospective pilot study
This study aimed to examine the correlation between ultrasonographic quadriceps muscle thickness (QMT) and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) derived appendicular lean mass (ALM) in patients with acute hemiplegic stroke. Twenty five participants were included (13 men and 12 women) in this study, who were diagnosed with stroke within 1 month. For both paretic and non-paretic legs, QMT was measured by an ultrasound and ALM was obtained by performing DXA scan. We analyzed the difference and the correlation between ultrasonographic QMT and DXA-derived lean body mass of both paretic and non-paretic legs. Stroke patients wer...

Association of metabolic syndrome with carotid atherosclerosis in low-income Chinese individuals: A population-based study
CONCLUSIONS: Among individuals aged 45 years or more, we confirmed MetS and its components were associated with carotid atherosclerosis in a low-income population of northern China. The presence of MetS and a higher number of MetS components exacerbated the risk of carotid atherosclerosis; among the five MetS components, high blood pressure was associated with the greatest risk. Targeted atherosclerosis prevention and intervention should include identification and treatment of MetS, especially high blood pressure.PMID:36061552 | PMC:PMC9437543 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.943281

Learning-based initialization for correntropy-based level sets to segment atherosclerotic plaque in ultrasound images
This study proposes an automatic method for atherosclerotic plaque segmentation by using correntropy-based level sets (CLS) with learning-based initialization. We introduce the CLS model, containing the point-based local bias-field corrected image fitting method and correntropy-based distance measurement, to overcome the limitations of the ultrasound images. A supervised learning algorithm is employed to solve the automatic initialization problem of the variational methods. The proposed atherosclerotic plaque segmentation method is validated on 29 carotid ultrasound images, obtaining a Dice ratio of 90.6 ± 1.9% and an ove...

High systemic immune-inflammation index is associated with carotid plaque vulnerability: New findings based on carotid ultrasound imaging in patients with acute ischemic stroke
This study sought to explore the relationship between SII level and carotid plaque vulnerability, plaque composition characteristics, and acute ischemic stroke (AIS) severity. A total of 131 patients diagnosed with AIS presenting with a carotid atherosclerotic plaque were enrolled in this study. Using carotid ultrasound (CDU) to assess the carotid-responsible plaque properties, we divided the patients into stable plaques group and vulnerable plaques group, and analyzed the correlation between SII levels and plaque vulnerability. And we further analyzed to evaluate the correlation between high SII levels and plaque characte...

The study of serum C-reactive protein, Serum cystatin C, and carbohydrate antigen 125 in patients with acute ischemic stroke
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2022 May 31;68(5):89-95. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2022.68.5.12.ABSTRACTStroke is the most common, deadly, and complicating neurological disease. Many studies have shown that the levels of some acute inflammatory reactants in people with ischemic stroke are higher than average. Therefore, in this study, three acute inflammatory reactants, i.e., C-reactive protein, Serum cystatin C, and carbohydrate antigen 125, were evaluated in patients with acute ischemic stroke to consider the association between these serums with intra and extra-cerebral vessels stenosis. In this cross-sectional study, 90 patien...
