Effectiveness of Ultrasound-guided VS Electrical-stimulation-guided Botulinum Toxin Injections in Triceps Surae Spasticity after Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Study
CONCLUSION: In agreement with previous research, no differences were found in the efficacy of ultrasound-guided or electrical-stimulation-guided abobotulinumtoxinA injections in triceps surae spasticity after stroke. Both techniques are of equal use in guiding muscle localization for botulinum toxin injections in spastic triceps surae.PMID:37434519 | PMC:PMC10358278 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v55.11963

Syncope Evaluation: Evidence-Based and Economical
This study eliminated low-risk syncope patients and those with non-syncope transient loss of consciousness, such as seizure and head trauma, using a structured approach in the emergency department (ED), with only high-risk syncope patients being admitted. These high-risk syncope patients made up 28% of the patients included in the study. After admission, a simplified Wells’ pulmonary embolism criteria score was calculated, and a D-dimer was obtained. If either was high, the patient was scanned for PE and 17% were found to be positive, with two-thirds of those being found to have large-vessel pulmonary emboli. The bottom ...

Ultrasound examination of the carotid artery for improved prediction of cardiovascular events and the effect of statin treatment in advanced atherosclerosis : An observational study
CONCLUSION: The prediction of cardiovascular events was better with plaque burden measurements than with the PROCAM score. Treatment with statins in subjects with advanced carotid atherosclerosis (types III-IV b findings on ultrasound) significantly improved the prognosis in a nonrandomized observational study.PMID:37402837 | DOI:10.1007/s00059-023-05197-z

Association between remnant cholesterol and subclinical carotid atherosclerosis among Chinese general population in health examination
CONCLUSION: Elevated serum RC levels were significantly associated with CAS and increased CIMT among Chinese general population, independent of LDL-C and HDL-C. RC evaluation could be applied for the risk management of early stage of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis in health examination.PMID:37392486 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2023.107234

Predictors of Short-Term Mortality in Patients with Ischemic Stroke
Conclusions: Our study identified a high NIHSS score and large lesion volume as independent risk factors for intrahospital mortality in ischemic stroke patients. Antiplatelet therapy was associated with lower mortality rates. Further studies are needed to explore the potential mechanisms underlying these associations and to develop targeted interventions to improve patient outcomes.PMID:37374346 | PMC:PMC10304635 | DOI:10.3390/medicina59061142
