Implementation of an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse–Led Clinic to Improve Follow-up Care for Post–Ischemic Stroke Patients
CONCLUSION: An APRN-led clinic can improve follow-up care and may reduce unplanned 30-day readmissions for post–ischemic stroke patients. Further work is needed to determine the impact of alternative approaches such as telehealth.

Associations between posttraumatic stress and stroke: A systematic review and meta ‐analysis
The objective of the present study was to systematically review the existing literature for studies examining the association between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and stroke risk and perform a meta-analysis to obtain a pooled risk estimate describing the association. A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, PSYCInfo, and CINAHL to identify relevant studies. Cohort and cross-sectional studies that reported PTSD exposure (i.e., PTSD diagnosis, probable PTSD, or the presence of PTSD symptoms) at baseline and the risk or odds of stroke associated with PTSD exposure during the study period were included in t...

Exploring the bi-directional relationship and shared genes between depression and stroke via NHANES and bioinformatic analysis
Conclusion: We successfully identified the ten hub shared genes linking the IS and MDD and constructed the regulatory networks for them that could serve as novel targeted therapy for the comorbidities.

Trends in deaths and disability-adjusted life-years of stroke attributable to high body-mass index worldwide, 1990 –2019
ConclusionA range of indicators for the global burden of stroke attributable to HBMI have been on the rise for the past three decades. Tremendous efforts worldwide should be in place to control and treat stroke attributable to HBMI, especially in regions with high-middle and middle SDIs and among middle-aged and aged populations.

Vital signs: avoidable deaths from heart disease, stroke, and hypertensive disease - United States, 2001-2010.
Conclusions: Nearly one fourth of all cardiovascular disease deaths are avoidable. These deaths disproportionately occurred among non-Hispanic blacks and residents of the South. Persons aged <65 years had lower rates than those aged 65-74 years but still accounted for a considerable share of avoidable deaths and demonstrated less improvement. Implications for Public Health Practice: National, state, and local initiatives aimed at improving health-care systems and supporting healthy behaviors are essential to reducing avoidable heart disease, stroke, and hypertensive disease deaths. Strategies include promoting the ABCS ...

Left ventricular hypertrophy in acute stroke patients with known hypertension.
CONCLUSIONS: In acute stroke patients, poor adherence to hypertension treatment is a significant independent predictor of LVH. A clear reason for poor adherence to treatment is elusive in a large proportion of these patients in our study. Further research is needed to identify and develop strategies to combat the key factors responsible for poor adherence to hypertension treatment. PMID: 28722487 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

O-004 A multicenter study evaluating the frequency and burden of mechanical thrombectomy on stroke centers
Conclusion This is the first study to quantify the time requirement of mechanical thrombectomy and the call burden on neurointerventional physicians at stroke centers. Over a three month period at 10 stroke centers across the United States, mechanical thrombectomy procedures occurred once every 5 days on average, although nearly 60% occurred during non-work hours. As ELVO awareness increases, thrombectomy call has important operational implications for hospitals implementing stroke call coverage. Abstract O-004 Figure 1 Disclosures T. Wilson: None. T. Outcome Measure Scores Predict Discharge Destination in Patients With Acute and Subacute Stroke: A Systematic Review and Series of Meta-analyses
Conclusion: Outcome measure scores are strong predictors of discharge destination among patients with stroke and provide an objective means of early discharge planning. Discharge decisions should be made with consideration for patient-specific biopsychosocial factors that may supersede isolated results of the outcome measures, and further research needs to assess the success of the location that a patient is referred at discharge. Predictors of Oral Anticoagulant Non-prescription in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Elevated Stroke Risk
Conclusions In this registry of AF patients, older patients at elevated stroke and low bleeding risk were commonly treated with OAC. However, a variety of factors were associated with OAC non-prescription. Specifically, antiplatelet use was prevalent and associated with the highest likelihood of OAC non-prescription. Future studies are warranted to understand provider and patient rationale that may underlie observed associations with OAC non-prescription.

Occupational and leisure-time physical activity differentially predict 6-year incidence of stroke and transient ischemic attack in women.
Conclusions Higher intensity levels of OPA increased stroke and TIA risks, while LTPA decreased risks; results corroborate the physical activity health paradox for women and cerebrovascular disease. More standing at work increased cerebrovascular disease risks, especially for women with CVD. PMID: 30448859 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) cohort of Brazilian patients in a university hospital
ABSTRACT Embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) is an important group of cryptogenic strokes that are in evidence due recent ongoing trials. We reviewed medical records at discharge from the stroke unit of all patients who met ESUS criteria and attended our institution between February 2016 and July 2017. Among 550 stroke patients, 51 had ESUS. We found that hypertension (60%), diabetes mellitus (34%), and smoking (36%) were the most prevalent risk factors. The mean National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores were 7 at admission and 4 at discharge, while median scores on the modified Rankin scale were 0...

Racial Differences in Mechanical Thrombectomy Utilization for Ischemic Stroke in the United States.
Conclusion: We found a significant disparity in MT utilization for AA compared with NHW and Hispanics. More work is needed to understand the drivers of this racial disparity in stroke treatment. PMID: 31969788 [PubMed - in process]

Spirituality and resilience among family  caregivers of survivors of stroke: A scoping review.
CONCLUSIONS: Spirituality and resilience following stroke are essential factors in caregiver adjustment following stroke. Further research with a focus on causality and the link between spirituality, resilience and adjustment in this population is needed. PMID: 32039873 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Sex Differences in Prehospital Delay in Patients With Acute Stroke: A Systematic Review.
CONCLUSIONS: Most study authors found no differences in prehospital delay between women and men; however, women delayed longer in some Asian-Pacific and American studies. Findings of sex differences were inconclusive. PMID: 32649376 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
