Available apps for stroke telerehabilitation during corona virus disease 2019 confinement in Spain
CONCLUSIONS: There are few specific Apps for the Stroke rehabilitation of sensory-motor impairments, and with important limitations that prevent their incorporation into clinical practice. The creation and adaptation of Apps for health professionals such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists and their users are recommended. Implications for rehabilitation It is necessary to create and adapt specific telerehabilitation tools to address sensory-motor disorders. Telerehabilitation should be introduced in the clinical practice of physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Telerehabilitation via App can be a solution, ea...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 5689: Influence of Core-Stability Exercises Guided by a Telerehabilitation App on Trunk Performance, Balance and Gait Performance in Chronic Stroke Survivors: A Preliminary Randomized Controlled Trial
és Stroke is one of the main causes of disability. Telerehabilitation could face the growing demand and a good strategy for post-stroke rehabilitation. The aim of this study is to examine the possible effects of therapeutic exercises performed by an App on trunk control, balance, and gait in stroke survivors. A preliminary 12-week randomized controlled trial was developed. Thirty chronic stroke survivors were randomly allocated into two groups. Both groups performed conventional physiotherapy, in addition to, the experimental group (EG) had access to a telerehabilitation App to guide home-based core-stability exercise...

Economic evaluations of health care interventions in oropharyngeal dysphagia after stroke: protocol for a systematic review
DiscussionThe protocol for this systematic review is the first step to assess the cost-effectiveness of the healthcare interventions that have been described as potential treatments for post-stroke OD. This systematic review will summarise the current evidence on the relation between cost and benefits associated with the appropriate management of OD in post-stroke patients.Trial registrationPROSPEROCRD42020136245

Mixtures of long-term exposure to ambient air pollution, built environment and temperature and stroke incidence across Europe
CONCLUSIONS: We observed increased HRs for stroke with exposure to PM2.5, NO2 and BC, lower levels of greenness and higher impervious surface in single and combined exposure models.PMID:37598594 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2023.108136

No association between fish consumption and risk of stroke in the Spanish cohort of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC-Spain): a 13·8-year follow-up study.
CONCLUSIONS: In the EPIC-Spain cohort, no association was found between lean fish, fatty fish and total fish consumption and risk of stroke. PMID: 26880327 [PubMed - in process]

Mobile applications related to stroke: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: Evidences with low methodological quality were identified in relation to different areas of care of the patient with stroke, as well as a wide range of applications in the different application markets, which advocated the creation of mechanisms of regulation regarding the validity of content. Trends in stroke hospitalisation rates in Extremadura between 2002 and 2014: Changing the notion of stroke as a disease of the elderly
ConclusionsOur results provide indirect evidence that the epidemiological profile of stroke is changing based on the increase in hospitalisation rates in young adults.

Relationship between level of education and one-year survival after ischaemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: In our setting, there are differences in the survival of patients with ischaemic stroke as a function of level of education. The impact of this factor was greater in men than women. PMID: 30741401 [PubMed - in process]

Structural Equation Model (SEM) of Stroke Mortality in Spanish Inpatient Hospital Settings: The Role of Individual and Contextual Factors
Conclusion. Contextual variables, and specifically the availability of stroke units, make a positive impact on individual variables that affect prognosis and mortality in ischemic stroke. Moreover, the determination of this impact is feasible through the use of structural equation methodology. We analyze the methodological and clinical implications of this type of study for hospital policies. Key words: Stroke; mortality; structural equation model; predictive model

Reducing Hypertension in a Post-Stroke Black and Hispanic Homecare Population: Results of a Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial.
CONCLUSION: The significant across-the-board SBP decreases suggest that UHC nurse/patient/physician interactions were the central component of SBP reduction and that additional efforts to lower recurrent stroke risk should test incremental improvements in usual care, not resource-intensive transitional care interventions. They also suggest the potential value of pragmatic homecare programs as part of a broader strategy to overcome HTN treatment barriers and improve secondary stroke prevention globally.
