Incidence of Cardiovascular Disease After Atopic Dermatitis Development: A Nationwide, Population-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: The current study found that adult patients newly diagnosed with AD were at significantly increased risk for subsequent CVDs, suggesting the need to consider early prevention strategies for CVDs targeting patients with AD.PMID:37021508 | PMC:PMC10079521 | DOI:10.4168/aair.2023.15.2.231

Association between antidiabetic drugs and the incidence of atrial fibrillation in patients with type 2 diabetes: a nationwide cohort study in South Korea
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is clinical practice's most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia. The prevalence of AF increases with age; thus, the incidence and prevalence of AF are increasing in the aging population worldwide. [1] AF is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), ischemic stroke, and mortality, resulting in a substantial economic burden and significant morbidity and mortality. [2,3] Thus, it is essential to identify and intervene against the modifiable risk factors to reduce the risk of developing AF.

Outcomes Following Carotid Endarterectomy and Carotid Artery Stenting in Patients with Carotid Artery Stenosis: A Retrospective Study from a Single Center in South Korea
CONCLUSIONS Favorable outcomes in terms of periprocedural stroke were observed. We found no significant difference between the 2 carotid revascularization techniques in the incidence of periprocedural stroke in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. To confirm our findings, further studies involving a larger number of patients and continuous follow-up are necessary.PMID:36788720 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.939223

ANGPTL4 stabilizes atherosclerotic plaques and modulates the phenotypic transition of vascular smooth muscle cells through KLF4 downregulation
Experimental & Molecular Medicine, Published online: 13 February 2023; doi:10.1038/s12276-023-00937-xTreatment with a protein that stabilizes existing plaques within blood vessels could help reduce the risk of future cardiovascular events in patients with atherosclerosis. These plaques arise in part from a change in the behavior of the muscle cells within the walls of the blood vessels, which leads to the accumulation of lipids and other biomolecules and creates conditions that can ultimately result in a heart attack or stroke. Researchers led by Youngkeun Ahn and Yong Sook Kim at Chonnam National University Hospital, ...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 2760: Contributing Factors to the Burden on Primary Family Caregivers of Stroke Survivors in South Korea
g Jongmin Lee Yun-Hee Kim The purpose of this study is to identify the factors associated with the burden on primary family caregivers of stroke patients at home without care services. For this study, the Korean Stroke Cohort for Functioning and Rehabilitation (KOSCO) data were used. Of the total 8010 caregivers, 1133 family caregiver burden was assessed with the shortened Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI) 3 months after stroke. Patient and caregiver-related factors affecting the heavier burden of caregivers were identified by comparing the heavier caregiver burden group and the lighter caregiver burden group, which...

Empagliflozin is associated with lower risk of cardiovascular events and all ‐cause mortality in routine care in East Asia: Results from the EMPRISE study
ConclusionsThe results suggest that both empagliflozin and SGLT2i compared with DPP-4i are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in routine clinical care in East Asia.
