Understanding Cognitive Impairment after Stroke: Stories from a Middle-Income Country
This study presents findings from a community of Malaysian-Chinese stroke survivors living in Malaysia on their understandings of cognitive deficits after stroke. The way stroke survivors thought about CI was also mediated by the cultural and social context that surrounded them. Of interest was the primacy of physical health over the cognitive which resulted in the invisibility of CI within this community, regardless of whether the deficits were mild or severe. Based on these findings, there is a need to rethink how cognitive decline should be observed in realistic community settings.

Stroke thrombolysis in a middle-income country: A case study exploring the determinants of its implementation
ConclusionsDespite the ongoing challenges, the success in implementing intravenous stroke thrombolysis as standard of care was attributed to the cohesiveness of team members and having facilitative work processes. For countries of similar settings, plans to improve the uptake of intravenous stroke thrombolysis should consider the inclusion of interventions targeting on these modifiable factors.

Validation of the caregiving knowledge questionnaire-my: Measuring knowledge regarding positioning and feeding among Malaysian informal caregivers of stroke patients
Conclusions: CKQ-My has good internal consistency and construct validity for the subscales measuring stroke caregivers' knowledge about positioning and feeding of stroke patients. It has potential as an assessment of effectiveness of caregiver training and for future studies on long-term stroke outcomes in Malaysia.

Predictors of functional outcome in patients with stroke thrombolysis in a tertiary hospital in Malaysia.
CONCLUSION: Our newly developed Malaysian IV rt-PA service is safe, with similar outcomes to the published literature. Functional outcome after thrombolysis was associated with baseline NIHSS scores and DM.

Malaysia is located in the heart of South East Asia with two land masses, Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia which are separated by the South China Sea. ConclusionBoth, ‘Conventional’ and ‘Intense’ oral health promotion programmes may successfully reduce dental plaque during stroke rehabilitation and are of comparable effectiveness. Older age and duration of exposure to type 2 diabetes in selective screening of asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis for primary stroke prevention —A single institution experience
Carotid artery disease is a well-known cause of stroke. In Malaysia, stroke is the third most common cause of death [1]. To our knowledge, there is still limited information regarding stroke and its associated risk factors. Strokes from ischemic infarction of the brain is due to narrowing or occlusion from local thrombosis or embolization of a proximal thrombus. The incidence of ischemic stroke from carotid artery stenosis in an asymptomatic western population is approximately 2.7% according to a report from Netherlands by Hartog et al.

Economic burden of stroke: a systematic review on post-stroke care
ConclusionThe highest PSC costs were observed in the USA, with rehabilitation services being the main cost driver. Due to diversity in reporting, it was not possible to conduct a detailed cost analysis addressing different segments of services. Further approaches should benefit from the advantages of administrative and claims data, focusing on inpatient/outpatient PSC cost and its predictors, assuring appropriate resource allocation.
