Stroke Patients' Characteristics and Clinical Outcomes: A Pre-Post COVID-19 Comparison Study
Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic may not have caused disruptions of acute stroke care in our primary stroke centre. Our data indicated that the number of ischaemic stroke events remained stable, with a significant increase of recanalisation therapies and better in-hospital workflow metrics during the COVID-19 pandemic period. However, we would like to highlight that the burden of COVID-19 cases in the study area was very low. Therefore, the study may not have captured the true burden (and relevant delays in stroke patient management) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The effect of the pandemic crisis is ongoing and both pre-...

Documenting the impact of stroke in a middle-income country: a Malaysian case study.
CONCLUSION: In LMIC, recovery can be shaped by the family unit and through active coping strategies especially those in relation to spirituality. Implications for rehabilitation The impact of stroke on survivors and lack of specialized stroke care compromise the recovery process and quality of life for stroke survivors in low and middle-income countries. Support from the family and reinforcement of religious coping were judged to successfully aid recovery. Physical and emotional impairments as well as psychosocial wellbeing of survivors in the context of environmental factors need to be addressed. PMID: 30183424 [PubM...

Case –Control Study and Meta-Analysis of the Association Between LIPG rs9958947 SNP and Stroke Risk
AbstractThe rs9958947 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) resides in the promoter region of the lipase G (LIPG) gene. This newly discovered SNP increases the risk of stroke in some Asian populations, including Chinese and Korean populations. Stroke is one of the top 5 leading causes of death in Malaysia, so it is of interest to investigate whether this SNP is associated with stroke risk in the Malaysian population. Therefore, this study investigates this association through a case –control study on a Malaysian population along with a comprehensive meta-analysis. Genotyping ofLIPG rs9958947 SNP was performed for 241 Mala...
