Association of underlying untreated cardiovascular risk factors with mortality and functional outcome in ischaemic stroke patients
Stroke is the third leading cause of death after ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and pneumonia in Malaysia.1 Aziz et al. reported that Malaysia's prevalence of ischaemic stroke had increased from 42.8 to 118.7 in 100,000 from 2010 to 2014. The report showed that 8-11% of ischaemic stroke patients died within 30 days while 56-61% survived with significant disability in Malaysia.2 Our previous study showed that patients with ischaemic stroke in Malaysia were younger, but the mortality rate was higher than in other countries.

A hospital-based study on ischaemic stroke characteristics, management, and outcomes in Sarawak: Where do we stand?
Located on the Borneo Island, Sarawak is the largest state of Malaysia and has a population distinctive from Peninsular Malaysia. The ischaemic stroke data in Sarawak had not been reported despite the growing number of patients annually. We aimed to investigate patient characteristics, management, and outcomes of ischaemic stroke in Sarawak and benchmark the results with national and international published data.

The relationships of Paired Like Homeodomain 2 (PITX2), Ninjurin 2 (NINJ2), TWIST-Related Protein 1 (TWIST1), Ras Interacting Protein 1 (Rasip1), Solute Carrier Family 17 Member 3 (SLC17A3), Methylmalonyl Co-A Mutase (MUT) and Fer3 Like BHLH Transcription Factor (FERD3L) polymorphisms and gene expression with ischemic stroke have yet to be determined in Malaysia. Hence, this study aimed to explore the associations of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and gene expression with ischemic stroke risk among population who resided at the Northern region of Malaysia.

Understandings stroke in rural Malaysia: ethnographic insights.
Conclusion: Lack of knowledge about stroke and its symptoms was evident in participants' account. Findings emphasize the importance of knowledge based health interventions, especially in health education strategies for stroke survivors to reduce delays to diagnosis and potentially improve health outcomes post-stroke. IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 1078: Direct Medical Cost of Stroke and the Cost-Effectiveness of Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Atrial Fibrillation-Related Stroke: A Cross-Sectional Study
Conclusions: The direct medical cost of stroke is substantial, with AF-stroke having a higher median cost per stroke care. DOACs were cost effective in the treatment of AF-related stroke in UKMMC.

Survivability of patients admitted for stroke in a primary stroke center, Penang, Malaysia: a retrospective 5-year study
CONCLUSION: The findings of the study are intended to encourage more non-stroke hospitals in Malaysia to increase their efforts in treating stroke patients, as early treatment can help reduce the severity of the stroke.
