Life Expectancy after Stroke Based On Age, Sex, and Rankin Grade of Disability: A Synthesis
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the developed world. The major factor affecting long term survival (other than age) is known to be the severity of disability. Yet to our knowledge there are no studies reporting life expectancies stratified by both age and severity. Remaining life expectancy is a key measure of health.

Quality of life among post-stroke Jordanian survivors: a prospective study
This study aims to assess the quality of life (QOL) and the related factors in patients post-stroke in Jordan. Prospective, the cross-sectional study recruited 100 participants with stroke from three public hospitals from December 1, 2021 to February 1, 2022. Patients with stroke were interviewed to fill the stroke-specific quality of life questionnaire. Forty-five per cent of the participants were male. More than half of the participants (53%) were married, and the average age of the participants was 63.6 (SD =3.8). Most of the participants had an ischemic stroke (86%) with an affected left side (65%). The overall Q...

Exploring stroke survivor experience of participation in an enriched environment: a qualitative study.
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides preliminary support for the implementation of an EE within a typical stroke rehabilitation setting from a patient perspective. Reported benefits included (1) increased motor, cognitive and sensory stimulation, (2) increased social interaction, (3) alleviation of degree of boredom and (4) increased feelings of personal control. However, participants also identified a number of barriers affecting implementation of the EE. We have previously published findings on perceptions of nursing staff working with stroke survivors in this enriched rehabilitation environment who identified that patients ...

Pharmacological thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke treatment: Gender differences in clinical risk factors
Conclusions Despite similarities in different areas of stroke care for both men and women, more women with diabetes, previous history of stroke and higher NIH scores are more likely to be excluded from thrombolytic therapy. Men with a previous history of stroke, hypertension and higher NIH scores are more likely to be excluded rtPA even after adjustment for confounding variables.

The influence of initial stroke severity on mortality, overall functional outcome and in-hospital placement at 90 days following acute ischemic stroke: A tertiary hospital stroke register study
Conclusions: In this acute stroke cohort, initial stroke severity had a major impact on the likelihood of death following an AIS and appears to be the dominant influence on the overall stroke outcome and in-hospital placement.

Tablet technology during stroke recovery: a survivor's perspective.
Conclusions: Incorporating tablet technology into the delivery of stroke rehabilitation appears to be feasible and acceptable at a patient level. This process has the potential to improve participation in therapeutic and or leisure; however further evaluation towards the impact of tablet technology on patient outcome and quality of life is required. Implications for Rehabilitation The use of tablet technology provides a platform to increase the variety and intensity of stroke therapy, both in the hospital setting and following discharge from hospital, facilitating physical, cognitive and social activity. Stroke survivors e...

Abstract P532: Hypertension and Gender Differences in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients Treated With Rtpa Session Title: Genetics and Epigenetics
Conclusion: The important factor for the poorer outcome and gender differences in hypertensive patients with acute ischemic stroke is mainly due to stroke severity and thrombolysis may play a major role in neutralizing this effect.

Outcomes of stroke events during transcatheter aortic valve implantation
CONCLUSIONS: Among Medicare beneficiaries undergoing TAVI, procedure-related ischaemic stroke was associated with worse outcomes, increased Medicare expenditures, and less time spent at home. Procedure-related ischaemic stroke during TAVI remains a critically important and potentially preventable source of patient mortality, morbidity and healthcare utilisation.PMID:35135749 | DOI:10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00951
