Clinical outcomes of suboptimal stent deployment as assessed by optical coherence tomography: long-term results of the CLI-OPCI registry
CONCLUSIONS: The presence of OCT assessed suboptimal criteria for stent implantation was related to a worse clinical outcome at very long-term follow-up. This information further supports an OCT-guided strategy of stent deployment.PMID:34825652 | DOI:10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00627 (Source: EuroIntervention)

Crush techniques for percutaneous coronary intervention of bifurcation lesions
EuroIntervention. 2021 Nov 12:EIJ-D-21-00690. doi: 10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00690. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPercutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of coronary artery bifurcation lesions entails technical challenges and carries a higher risk of adverse events on follow-up, driven by repeat revascularisation and stent thrombosis. While most bifurcations can be tackled with a provisional (single-stent) approach, more complex lesions involving both branches (true bifurcation lesions) require a two-stent approach. In the latter context, several techniques have been proposed. Among them, the crush technique has dramatically evolv...

Transcatheter treatment for tricuspid valve disease
EuroIntervention. 2021 Nov 19;17(10):791-808. doi: 10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00695.ABSTRACTApproximately 4% of subjects aged 75 years or more have clinically relevant tricuspid regurgitation (TR). Primary TR results from anatomical abnormality of the tricuspid valve apparatus and is observed in only 8-10% of the patients with tricuspid valve disease. Secondary TR is more common and arises as a result of annular dilation caused by right ventricular enlargement and dysfunction as a consequence of pulmonary hypertension, often caused by left-sided heart disease or atrial fibrillation. Irrespective of its aetiology, TR leads to volume ...

EuroIntervention. 2021 Nov 19;17(10):835-847. doi: 10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00158.ABSTRACTTranscatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has revolutionised the treatment of severe, symptomatic aortic stenosis and it is now a proven and effective alternative to surgery for patients regardless of preoperative risk stratification. Nevertheless, the consequent expansion towards younger patients with longer life expectancy focuses attention on long-term considerations. In particular, although the prevalence of coronary artery disease has been shown to decrease with the lowering of estimated risk stratification, the chance of requiremen...

Coronary vasomotion after treatment with drug-coated balloons or drug-eluting stents: a prospective, open-label, single-centre randomised trial
CONCLUSIONS: Vasoconstriction after acetylcholine infusion in the peri-treated region was less pronounced in the DCB arm than in the DES arm, suggesting that endothelial function in treated coronary vessels could be better preserved by DCB than by new-generation DES.PMID:34757917 | DOI:10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00636 (Source: EuroIntervention)

A staging classification of right heart remodelling for patients undergoing transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair
CONCLUSIONS: A simple staging classification objectively characterises the extent of right heart remodelling caused by MR and allows risk prediction in patients undergoing a MitraClip procedure.PMID:34757918 | DOI:10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00667 (Source: EuroIntervention)
