Disparities in Emergency Medical Services Care Delivery in the United States: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS: Existing research highlights health disparities in EMS care delivery throughout multiple health outcomes and phases of EMS care. Future research is needed to identify structured mechanisms to eliminate disparities, address clinician bias, and provide high-quality equitable care for all patient populations.PMID:36369725 | DOI:10.1080/10903127.2022.2142344

The Effect of Acute Handgrip and Aerobic Exercise on Wasted Pressure Effort and Arterial Wave Reflections in Healthy Aging
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2023 Jul 21. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00133.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAging increases arterial stiffness and wave reflections which augment left ventricular wasted pressure effort (WPE). A single bout of exercise may be effective at acutely reducing WPE via reductions in arterial wave reflections. In young adults (YA) acute aerobic exercise decreases, whereas handgrip increases, wave reflections. Whether acute exercise mitigates or exacerbates WPE and arterial wave reflection in healthy aging warrants further examination. The purpose of this study was to determine if there are age-re...

Endovascular treatment of intracranial arteriovenous malformation with n-butyl cyanoacrylate. Working methods and experience in 58 cases.
CONCLUSIONS: The rates of total occlusion and of morbidity and mortality in the series are in the internationally described ranges. The implementation of intranidal closings with 20-30% devascularization per session and the use of post-embolization hypotension after the haemorrhage complications described resulted in the total absence of haemorrhagic complications. Ischemic preconditioning does not alter muscle sympathetic responses to static handgrip and metaboreflex activation in young healthy men
Abstract Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) has been hypothesized to elicit ergogenic effects by reducing feedback from metabolically sensitive group III/IV muscle afferents during exercise. If so, reflex efferent neural outflow should be attenuated. We investigated the effects of IPC on muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) during static handgrip (SHG) and used post‐exercise circulatory occlusion (PECO) to isolate for the muscle metaboreflex. Thirty‐seven healthy men (age: 24 ± 5 years [mean ± SD]) were randomized to receive sham (n = 16) or IPC (n = 21) interventions. Blood pressure, heart rate, and MSNA (m...

The Impact of Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair on Long-Term Survival in Type B Aortic  Dissection
Conclusions The treatment of uncomplicated aTBAD with optimal medical therapy results in a high incidence of surgical intervention and poor long-term survival. At the index hospitalization, TEVAR may confer a survival advantage and serve as optimal therapy for complicated and uncomplicated aTBAD patients.

Metabolic features of adult and adolescent first-degree relatives of women with polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have a 2-fold increased risk of metabolic syndrome (1). The risk of metabolic complications in first-degree relatives (FDR) of PCOS women is unclear (2, 3). The present analysis aimed to determine the metabolic risks of adult and adolescent FDR of PCOS women (i.e. fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters) vs controls. Primary outcomes were mean differences in BMI, and odds for type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), metabolic syndrome (MetS), stroke, and myocardial infarction (MI).

Labetalol Use Is Associated With Increased In-Hospital Infection Compared With Nicardipine Use in Intracerebral Hemorrhage Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Compared with nicardipine, labetalol was associated with increased in-hospital infections, but not mortality or modified Rankin Score>2. These findings do not support our hypothesis that labetalol use improves outcomes relative to nicardipine in intracerebral hemorrhage.
