Stroke-related risk factors during pregnancy in women who underwent metabolic and bariatric surgery compared with women who have not undergone metabolic and bariatric surgery
Stroke during pregnancy is rare, occurring in 30 of 100,000 pregnancies and accounting for 7% of maternal deaths in the United States from 2016 to 2018. Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) has been shown to reduce symptoms of chronic conditions that are risk factors for stroke, including hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes in women. However, little is known about the impact of MBS on stroke risk during pregnancy.

In a stroke cohort with incident hypertension; are more women than men likely to be excluded from recombinant tissue-type Plasminogen Activator (rtPA)?
The treatment outcomes in the use of rt-PA have been reported. Some studies reported worse outcome in women than men, while others presented opposing data. Using data from a hospital-based stroke registry, we investigated evidence of gender difference and determined exclusion criteria in a stroke population with incidence of hypertension.

Factors Influencing Oral Intake Improvement and Feeding Tube Dependency in Patients with Poststroke Dysphagia

Methods: We conducted an exploratory, retrospective observational longitudinal cohort study of acute, first-ever, ischemic stroke patients. Patients who had an initial nonoral feeding recommendation from a speech and language pathologist and who underwent a modified barium swallow study within their hospital stay were included.

Practice variability in the perioperative management of pediatric moyamoya disease in North America
Revascularization surgery decreases the long-term risk of stroke in children with moyamoya, but ischemic complications occur after 10-20% of moyamoya surgeries, with stroke in 5-10%.1-5 Though single center institutional practices for perioperative moyamoya care have been published,6 evidence-based approaches to safe perioperative management of children with moyamoya are limited due to disease rarity. We aimed to understand the degree of practice variability in perioperative pediatric moyamoya care and to identify areas of equipoise in order to target future research and consensus-building efforts.
