Total Antioxidant Capacity Predicts Outcome in Acute Ischemic Stroke Subtypes in Egyptian Patients
Background: Oxidative stress after ischemic stroke contributes to neuronal cell injury. We tried to demonstrate an association between total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels and outcomes after acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Methods: We enrolled 60 patients (36 females and 24 males) who were admitted to our hospital due to AIS, in addition to 30 age and sex-matched healthy controls. TAC levels were measured on day 1 of stroke onset, the relationships between TAC levels, stroke subtypes, and clinical outcomes based on the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale and modified Rankin scale upon discharge were evaluated.

Intracranial Steno-Occlusive Arterial Disease and its Associations in Egyptian Ischemic Stroke Patients Brief Report
Conclusion— Symptomatic and asymptomatic intracranial arterial steno-occlusive disease was prevalent in this Egyptian acute stroke sample. This might have important implications on stroke management in this population.

Urban Versus Rural Egypt: Stroke Risk Factors and Clinical Profile: Cross-Sectional Observational Study
Background: Egypt is a densely populated country with living habits and health care services that differ from urban to rural regions. We aimed to study how characteristics of stroke vary among these regions. Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study of ischemic stroke, thus hemorrhagic and venous strokes were excluded. A total of 1475 ischemic stroke patients were recruited for analysis from a tertiary hospital in Cairo representing urban area and from a secondary care hospital in Suhag representing rural region.

Using ESN-Smartphone Application to Maximize AIS Reperfusion Therapy in Alexandria Stroke Network: A Stroke Chain of Survival Organizational Model
Conclusion: Our pilot experience demonstrated that the use of the ESN-app expedited the stroke treatment workflow and facilitated tele-connection between registered stroke facilities. Additionally, its use might be associated with achieving higher rates of excellent outcomes at 90 days, where a larger scale study is needed for more confirmation.

Early post-stroke seizures in a sample of Egyptian patients with first-ever stroke
Conclusion: The incidence of early post-stroke seizures was high in our study and was positively associated with a poor functional outcome, a higher in-hospital mortality rate and a longer duration of in-hospital stay. The most important risk factors were ICH, the cortical site of involvement and a large size of the lesion.

β(S) globin gene haplotype and the stroke risk among Egyptian children with sickle cell disease.
CONCLUSION: This study provides a relevant contribution to our understanding of the anthropological and historical background of the population in Egypt where Benin haplotype is the commonest β(S) globin gene haplotype and homozygous Benin/Benin is associated with higher stroke risk than other haplotypes. Transcranial Doppler sonography for detecting stenosis or occlusion of intracranial arteries in people with acute ischaemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: This review provides evidence that TCD or TCCD, administered by professionals with adequate experience and skills, can provide useful diagnostic information for detecting stenosis or occlusion of intracranial vessels in people with acute ischaemic stroke, or guide the request for more invasive vascular neuroimaging, especially where CT or MR-based vascular imaging are not immediately available. More studies are needed to confirm or refute the results of this review in a larger sample of stroke patients, to verify the role of contrast medium and to evaluate the clinical advantage of the use of ultrasound. ...
